Thanks for the detailed feedback. My A6 has 18118 KM on the clock and just had its annual service last month. The issues started quite suddenly after a particularly cold morning. No recent electrical work or battery changes. Besides the navigation failure, I am now also getting ABS and airbag warning lights. The workshop suggested a full vehicle software diagnostic scan, but I wanted to check if anyone here had success with a simple software reset before spending money on extensive testing. The electrical problems seem to come and go out of nowhere throughout the day.

Based on those additional symptoms, especially the unusual electrical issues and warning lights, your situation sounds exactly like what I dealt with on my A4. The intermittent nature of the problems plus multiple system failures strongly points to a control unit issue rather than individual component failures. While a software reset might provide temporary relief, my experience showed it was just a band-aid solution. The control module needed proper recalibration and a full software update to permanently resolve the issues. The cold weather trigger you mentioned is particularly telling, temperature sensitivity often indicates control unit problems in these models. The ABS and airbag warnings you are getting now match the cascade of errors I experienced before getting the repair done. Trying to save money with basic resets actually cost me more in the long run as the problems kept returning. The control unit diagnostic and software update package might seem expensive upfront, but its still cheaper than replacing multiple components. Looking back, I wish I had skipped the attempt at simple resets and gone straight for the full software diagnosis and update. Consider requesting the workshop to specifically check the control module connections and ground points during the diagnostic scan. These can also be affected by temperature changes and contribute to similar vehicle software issues. The workshop repair cost for a full diagnostic and software update should be around 250-300 Euro, which is worth it compared to the potential risks of driving with unreliable safety systems.

Thanks for the input. After checking my onboard diagnostics myself using a basic scanner, I confirmed multiple electrical fault codes. Given the feedback about temperature sensitivity and ECU problems being common in these models, I will proceed with the full software diagnostic at the workshop. The intermittent nature of these control unit issues and the risk of driving with compromised safety systems isnt worth trying cheaper fixes first. Will schedule the appointment tomorrow and hope the 300 Euro estimate holds true. If the software update and ECU recalibration fix the problems like they did in your case, it will definitely be money well spent compared to replacing individual components. Will update the thread once I have the results from the workshop.

As someone with moderate experience working on Audis, I encountered almost identical ECU problems with my 2004 Audi A4 last year. The symptoms were very similar, with multiple electrical issues and system malfunctions. The root cause turned out to be a software bug in the control module. The workshop performed a complete ECU recalibration and software update to resolve the issues. The entire repair process took about 4 hours and cost me 240 Euro. The technician explained that these control module issues are fairly common in Audis from that era, especially when the original software becomes outdated or corrupted over time. A full system diagnostic and software update usually resolves most electrical gremlins. To provide more specific advice for your case, could you share: Current mileage, Any recent electrical work or battery replacements, Other warning lights or error codes showing, Whether issues started gradually or suddenly This information would help determine if your A6 needs similar ECU recalibration or if there might be other underlying issues.
