Audi A6 Misfiring: Critical Engine Performance Fix Tips

Running into serious performance issues with my 2007 Audi A6 (gas, 164k km). Engine feels weak and shaky, with jerky throttle response during acceleration. The check engine light started flashing recently. Everything points to combustion misfire, but my last mechanic visit left me skeptical of their diagnosis. Anyone dealt with similar symptoms on their A6? Looking for recommendations on common causes and trustworthy repair approaches.

I experienced identical symptoms on my 2010 Audi A8 last winter. The rough idle and inconsistent throttle response turned out to be caused by a faulty fuel injector. When the check engine light started flashing, diagnostic tests confirmed a severe combustion misfire in cylinder 3. The repair required: Complete fuel injector replacement, New spark plugs as preventive measure, Fuel system cleaning This was a serious issue requiring immediate attention, as faulty injectors can cause permanent engine damage if left untreated. The flashing check engine light specifically indicates an active misfire that could damage the catalytic converter. The symptoms matched exactly what you describe: Engine feeling weak and unstable, Jerky acceleration, Shaking during idle, Inconsistent power delivery The repair resolved all issues completely. For A6 models of that generation, injector problems are a known point of concern after 150k km. Getting a proper diagnostic scan and injector flow test would be the recommended first step to confirm this is your issue.

Thanks for confirming those symptoms. This matches my experience exactly. When my A6 had the cylinder misfire issue, it showed those same performance problems, the rough idle was particularly noticeable at traffic stops. Since getting it fixed last year, throttle response has been perfect and the engine runs smoothly again. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was in your case? Also curious if the spark plug replacement helped prevent any issues from coming back? Been considering doing some preventive maintenance myself since the fix.

Glad to confirm the symptoms matched your experience. After getting my A8 fixed back then, all engine misfiring issues disappeared completely. The repair bill came to 515 Euro for the defective injection valve replacement. The new spark plugs were definitely worth including in the repair, since the fix, throttle response has remained consistently smooth with no rough idle problems returning. Having the proper diagnosis made all the difference. The combustion misfire was accurately pinpointed to the faulty injector, which prevented any unnecessary parts replacement. The engine has been running perfectly for over a year now with no signs of the previous issues coming back. For preventive maintenance, regular fuel system cleaning would be a good practice to maintain optimal injector performance and prevent future misfires.

After dealing with the same frustrating symptoms, I finally took my A6 to a certified Audi specialist who properly diagnosed the engine misfiring issue. The ignition coils were failing, causing the cylinder misfire and rough running. Total repair came to 680 Euro including parts and labor. The mechanic found two completely failed ignition coils and recommended replacing all of them along with the spark plugs as a complete set. They also performed a full diagnostic scan which confirmed no other underlying issues. The repair process took about 3 hours and the difference was immediate, smooth idle, proper acceleration, and no more check engine light. It has been running perfectly for 6 months now. The specialist explained that ignition coil failure is pretty common on these engines at higher mileage. Really glad I got a proper diagnosis instead of throwing parts at the problem. Having a knowledgeable mechanic made all the difference in getting it fixed right the first time.
