Thanks for the insight. After taking the car to the workshop last week at 77816 KM, they found additional volume control problems alongside the Bluetooth issue. The wireless connection drops even with different phones. During diagnostics, they confirmed error code 00288 related to the microphone circuit. The ambient noise filtering seems completely non-functional now, making calls impossible. The audio system works perfectly for radio and media playback though. Going to try the microphone replacement route first since its the most cost-effective option before considering the full repair you suggested.

Thanks for the update. That error code 00288 matches exactly what I encountered before the complete repair on my A4. While the microphone replacement is a logical first step, my experience suggests the issue often extends beyond just the microphone unit. The symptoms you describe, particularly the non-functional noise filtering and perfect media playback, mirror my situation precisely. When my audio input issues started, I also tried replacing just the microphone, but the Bluetooth issue persisted until the complete wiring and module replacement was done. A few observations from my repair experience: The microphone circuit problems tend to cascade into the noise cancellation system, Speech recognition degradation often indicates broader connection issues, Working media playback but failed calls typically point to the control module If the basic microphone repair doesnt resolve it, consider having the workshop check the wiring harness in the overhead console. The deterioration pattern in these models typically affects the entire audio input system over time. The 815 Euro I spent on the complete fix ultimately proved more cost-effective than attempting partial repairs. Keep us updated on how the microphone replacement works out.

Thanks everyone for the detailed suggestions. Quick update after getting the microphone replacement done, unfortunately the Bluetooth issue persists. The sound quality during calls is still terrible and the wireless connection keeps dropping. The workshop confirmed additional deterioration in the wiring harness, exactly as suggested. Looking at the complete repair package now including: New wiring for the audio input system, Updated Bluetooth control module, Full recoding of the hands-free components The total estimate is 790 Euro which seems reasonable given the scope. Will schedule the work for next week and report back on whether it resolves all the connection problems. Hopefully this fixes both the microphone issues and wireless stability once and for all. The audio system still works perfectly for everything except calls, so getting this sorted will finally give me full functionality again. Thanks again for helping diagnose the root cause beyond just the basic microphone repair.

Having some experience with similar issues, this happened on my 2002 Audi A4. The speech recognition and microphone repair turned out to be more complex than expected. Initially, the audio system worked fine for music, but the hands-free functions failed completely. After multiple attempts to reset and reconnect devices, the workshop diagnosed a faulty microphone unit and deteriorating wiring in the overhead console. The ambient noise cancellation module was also affected. The complete repair involved: Replacing the main microphone unit, Rewiring the audio input connections, Installing an updated Bluetooth control module, Recoding the infotainment system Total cost was 815 Euro including parts and labor. Since the repair, all hands-free functions have worked flawlessly. To provide more specific guidance, could you share: Whether any error codes are stored in the system, If the issue happens with multiple phones, Whether the audio system shows any other symptoms, If there are any unusual sounds or static during calls This would help determine if your A6 has similar underlying issues to what I encountered.
