Audi A5 Throttle Issues: Symptoms and Solutions

Engine hard to start

|

Poor fuel economy

Having issues with my 2015 Audi A5 Gasoline. The car throttle response feels off, with poor starts and much higher fuel usage than normal. The engine throttle seems unresponsive at times, and I suspect a faulty throttle body might be the root cause. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms and had them fixed? Specifically interested in what diagnostics confirmed the issue and how complex the repair was. Would appreciate hearing about repair costs and if cleaning the throttle body helped or if it needed complete replacement. Also curious if these symptoms appeared gradually or suddenly in your case.

I had a similar issue with my 2013 Audi A4 with the 2.0 TFSI engine. Having some experience with throttle body problems, the symptoms you describe match what I encountered. The throttle valve in my case was causing irregular idle and poor throttle response. Initially thought cleaning the throttle body would solve it, but diagnostic tests revealed a defective accelerator pedal module. The control valve wasnt receiving proper signals from the pedal, causing inconsistent throttle position readings. The repair cost me 205 Euro including parts and labor. The workshop needed about 2 hours to complete the job, including running full diagnostics to confirm the issue. After replacement, the throttle response and fuel economy returned to normal immediately. To better assist with your case, could you provide: Current mileage on your A5, Check engine light status, Whether symptoms appeared gradually or suddenly, Any error codes if scanned, Recent maintenance history This information would help determine if your issue is similar to what I experienced with the throttle control system.

Last service was 1500km ago with complete throttle cleaning done. Since then, symptoms appeared gradually. Idle is now really rough, especially when cold. The throttle position sensor shows inconsistent readings on my OBD scanner. Fuel efficiency has dropped by about 25% in the past month. The check engine light started flashing intermittently last week. Got error code P0123 which points to throttle position sensor circuit high input. Wondering if I should try another cleaning service or go straight for replacement, given the error code specifics.

Based on your latest update, and having gone through this myself, I strongly recommend going for a throttle body replacement rather than just another cleaning. When I faced similar issues with my A4, the second cleaning only provided temporary relief. The error code P0123 you are getting is a clear indicator of electrical issues with the throttle position sensor, exactly what I initially overlooked. The rough engine idle and inconsistent throttle readings mirror my experience before the repair. In my case, attempting multiple throttle cleaning sessions actually delayed fixing the real problem. The air intake system and throttle position sensor work together as part of the engine throttle control. When the sensor fails, no amount of cleaning will resolve the erratic readings and poor performance. A few key points from my experience: Cleaning only helps when the issue is carbon buildup, Electrical faults in the throttle system require component replacement, The 25% fuel consumption increase matches what I saw before repair, Intermittent check engine lights often indicate a failing sensor Given these symptoms and especially the P0123 code, I would skip another cleaning and go straight for the throttle body replacement. The repair cost should be similar to what I paid (around 205 Euro), assuming no additional complications are found during installation.

Based on the helpful feedback from, the error code and symptoms I reported match well with their experience. Will skip the cleaning route and book the throttle body replacement service for next week. The specific insight about electrical faults vs carbon buildup makes sense, especially with my P0123 code indicating sensor circuit issues. Its good to know the car throttle problems they faced were fully resolved with the replacement, and the repair costs seem reasonable at around 205 Euro. My air intake and control valve symptoms sound nearly identical to what they experienced. Feel much more confident now about the right approach rather than wasting time with another cleaning service that likely wont fix the underlying throttle position sensor problem. Will update once the repair is completed to confirm if it resolves the fuel consumption and performance issues.
