The wiring fault turned out to be exactly my issue too. When I had this problem, the door mechanism started working intermittently before failing completely. The door electronics kept showing unusual error codes until it was fixed. The mechanic found significant corrosion in the wiring connecting to the door actuator, which required a complete replacement. Really curious how much this repair cost you, as prices seem to vary quite a bit. Also wondering if youve had any other door-related issues pop up since the fix?

Glad to share an update about my repair experience. It ended up being quite straightforward once the mechanic properly diagnosed the sensor issue. The total cost came to 95 Euro for fixing the faulty cable connection in the door mechanism. Since the repair, the door handle electronics have worked flawlessly. The keyless entry system functions perfectly now, and all those unusual error codes have completely disappeared. The mechanic mentioned these door electronics problems often stem from simple connection issues rather than major component failures. I havent experienced any additional door-related problems in the months following the fix. The car door operates smoothly, and the locking system responds consistently. It was definitely worth addressing the issue properly rather than trying temporary solutions that might have led to recurring problems.

I went to get it checked last week and you were right, it was the wiring. The mechanic showed me where the door switch wiring had corroded, affecting the entire electric door system. The repair took about 2 hours and cost 280 Euro, including parts and labor. The door handle and sensor issue is completely resolved now. Everything works perfectly, both the keyless entry and regular key function. No more error codes showing up on the dash either. The mechanic mentioned these wiring problems are pretty common and usually get misdiagnosed as faulty door actuators. What surprised me was how much cheaper it was compared to what the first shop quoted me. They wanted 750 Euro to replace the entire door mechanism. Good thing I asked around before committing to that repair.

Had the same problem on my 2018 A4 last winter. The door actuator and electric door system showed multiple fault codes. Initial diagnosis pointed to the door mechanism, but it turned out to be a damaged wiring harness where cables enter the door through the rubber boot. The door handle electronics and central locking system were fine, but the cable connection had corroded over time. The car door would sometimes work with the physical key but fail with keyless entry. A proper repair required removing the door panel and replacing the entire wire harness section connecting the door actuator to the main system. This is a fairly common issue with these models, often mistaken for a faulty door handle or switch. While not a critical safety concern, it needs proper attention since it affects both security and convenience features. The repair takes about 3-4 hours for a skilled technician to complete. Worth checking the connections first, sometimes cleaning and reseating the plugs can temporarily resolve the issue. But if corrosion is present in the wiring, temporary fixes wont last long.
