Audi A5 Cabrio engine indicator light comes on

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Poor fuel economy

Unsteady engine

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Hi guys, I have a problem with my 2011 Audi A5 petrol engine. It smokes black when accelerating, the check engine light is on, loses power, runs unevenly, jerks when accelerating and guzzles a lot of fuel. I suspect that the lambda sensor heater is defective. Has anyone ever experienced something like this and can give me tips on how to isolate the problem? How did you solve it in the workshop and what were your experiences? Many thanks in advance.

Hello, I had a similar problem with my 2009 Audi A3 diesel. I'm not a car mechanic, but I do have a bit of experience with cars. Mine was caused by a simple faulty engine control unit. They replaced it in the workshop and everything was fine again. It cost me around €1000. But without knowing more, it's just a guess. Have you already had the fault memory read out? That could give you more information.

Hey, thanks for the answer, man! So, the fault memory readout hasn't happened yet. I was really thinking about ordering an Obd2 scanner myself, maybe I could do something with it, right? And that's a good tip about the engine control unit, I hadn't thought about that yet. My 123456 km also want to be run. But to be honest, it hurts when I think of the possible price in the workshop. Well, I'll see what happens. Thanks for the tip!

Hey, you're welcome! An OBD2 scanner is not a bad idea. It gives you the option of reading out error codes yourself. Maybe you could actually find something out that way. But be careful, it can be quite complex if you're not familiar with it. Before you jump in, I would ask the garage for a precise cost estimate for the repair. As you say, the 123456 km need to be run, and with the Audi A5 it certainly can't hurt to get an expert opinion. Give it a try and keep us up to date here. Good luck, man!

Hi, thanks again for the advice! You're really right, maybe I should leave the readout to a professional, I don't want to make anything worse than it already is. I'll probably buy the OBD2 scanner anyway, as it never hurts to get to grips with it. Let's see what the garage thinks and how much it would cost me. I'll let you know if there's any news. See you then!
