Audi A4 Parking Assist System Goes Completely Dark

Park distance control without function

|

Fault stored

My Audi A4 2020 diesel (57511km) suddenly stopped assisting while parking. The error message keeps showing up in the system. The parking sensors seem completely dead, no beeping, no display. Already had some trust issues with my mechanic from previous repairs. Has anyone dealt with similar parking aid faults? Looking for insights on potential causes and repair costs before heading back to a shop. Could it be faulty wiring or the control module?

Had the same parking assist failure on an Audi A6 2017 diesel at 62000km. The parking sensors and rearview camera stopped working completely, no obstacle detection, no visual or audio warnings. The root cause turned out to be corroded wiring connectors between the control module and the parking sensors. Water had seeped in through a deteriorated grommet near the trunk, causing connection issues. The control module itself was functioning properly. This is typically not a serious repair, but requires precise diagnostic work to pinpoint the exact connection point that failed. The fix involved replacing the damaged wiring harness section and installing new weather-sealed connectors. Also required recalibration of the parking assist system. Would recommend having a certified technician check the following: Connection points for all parking sensors, Main harness to parking assist control module, Water damage around trunk seals and grommets, System voltage at each sensor The symptoms match exactly what happens when there is a break in communication between sensors and the control module. Getting this diagnosed early prevents more extensive electrical damage.

Thanks for sharing that experience with the wiring issue. The symptoms do sound identical to what I experienced with my ultrasonic sensors. My mechanic also discovered water damage affecting the control module connections. Did you happen to remember the final repair cost? Also curious if youve had any recurring issues with the parking assist system since the fix? My A4 is still under extended warranty, but Im trying to get an idea of potential costs if it ends up not being covered.

Thanks for asking about the costs. After getting it fixed last week, the parking assist system works perfectly again. The repair was surprisingly straightforward, the mechanic found a loose cable connection at one of the blind spot sensors, which had caused the entire parking aid system to fail. The total repair came to 95 Euro, which covered diagnosing the fault, fixing the connection, and testing the system. Since the fix, all parking sensors are responding normally, with proper obstacle detection and audio warnings working as they should. The rearview camera display is also functioning correctly now. This kind of faulty wiring issue is pretty common with these systems. If your car is still under warranty, definitely get it checked, these radar sensors and their connections can be sensitive to moisture and environmental factors. My repair was much simpler than initially expected, so hopefully yours will be too. No recurring issues so far with any of the parking assist features. The system has been reliable since the cable was properly secured and weather-sealed.

Thanks everyone for the help. Finally got the issue sorted at a different mechanic who specialized in electronic systems. After a thorough check, they found water damage in the control module connector, just like mentioned here. The repair ended up being pricier than expected at 320 Euro since they had to replace part of the wiring harness and a faulty sensor. But at least the parking assist system is working perfectly now, all sensors responding, clear audio warnings, and the rearview camera display is crisp again. Had to wait 2 days for the parts but the actual repair only took about 3 hours. The new shop did a great job explaining the issue and showing me the corroded parts. Much better experience than my previous mechanic who kept giving vague answers about potential fixes. Good to know these issues are fairly common. Will definitely keep an eye on any water seepage near the trunk area to prevent future problems with the blind spot sensors and parking system wiring.
