Audi A4 (2006): Problems with engine running and high fuel consumption - Possible defect in the mass air flow sensor

Stalling while idling

Jerking on acceleration

Unsteady engine

Poor fuel economy

Shaking while idling

Check engine light on

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Engine shuts off by itself

Greetings, I have a few problems with my Audi A4 (built in 2006, gasoline engine) and would appreciate some advice. There is black smoke when accelerating, the check engine light comes on, the engine shuts off by itself, reduced engine power, uneven engine running, jerking when accelerating, high fuel consumption, stuttering at idle and vibrations at idle. I suspect that it could be due to a defect in the mass air flow sensor, but I'm not sure. Do you have any experience with a similar problem and can you give any tips? How did you get it fixed in the workshop and what did you experience? Many thanks in advance!

Hello, I had a very similar problem with my Audi A3 (built in 2004, also a gasoline engine). I am not an expert, but I do have a bit of experience with cars. In my case, the fuse in the mass air flow sensor was defective. I went to my garage and they checked the mass air flow sensor and confirmed that it was indeed the fuse that was faulty. They replaced the fuse and it only cost me 52 euros. The problem was fixed and my car has been running perfectly ever since. Could you possibly provide more information about your vehicle? How many kilometers has it done, when was the last time you had it serviced and when was the last time you had the fuses checked? Maybe I can then help you more specifically.

Hello, thank you for your answer! My Audi has now covered 198431 km and the last workshop visit was about a year ago. I've honestly never checked the fuses. I guess I could go to my garage and ask them to check the mass airflow sensor and the fuses. Better safe than sorry, right? Really hadn't thought about the fuses. Thanks again!

Hello, no problem, you're welcome. Yes, that's right. Safe is safe! If you've never checked the fuses, then I would definitely recommend doing so. In the case of the mass air flow sensor, it could simply be the fuses that need replacing. However, with so many kilometers and problems, something else could also be broken. However, if it really is the mass air flow sensor, it would be a good start. But ask the workshop to explain everything to you in detail and don't just take anything for granted. I've had quite a few experiences with my little "diva". I wish you every success and hope that your Audi runs smoothly again soon! Please let me know how it went. I would be really interested to see what comes out.

Hi, thanks for the tips and your support! I'll take your advice to heart and have everything explained in detail. Yes, with this mileage, several things could give up the ghost. I really hope it's just the fuses. I will definitely report back what came out of the check. Thanks again for your help! Keep your fingers crossed that it's nothing serious and that my Audi will soon be fit again!
