Audi A3 Hybrid engine problems

Hello everyone, my Audi A3 built in 2017, petrol engine, shows the following problems: black smoke from the exhaust when accelerating, check engine light on, loss of power, uneven engine running, jerking when accelerating, won't start, poor fuel consumption, stalling at idle, shuddering at idle. I suspect that the ignition coils are defective or that there are misfires. Has anyone had similar experiences and can give tips on diagnosis and solution? How did you get the problem solved in the workshop? Thank you!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2019 Audi A4. I also had black smoke coming out of the exhaust and a rough engine running. I have some experience with cars, but it was too complicated for me to do on my own. In the end, my engine control unit was faulty. The garage diagnosed it and replaced it. It cost me 1000 euros, but after that the car ran perfectly again. Your symptoms sound very similar to mine. It could also be the engine control unit in your case. It's best to have a precise diagnosis carried out in the workshop. What kind of engine do you have exactly? If it helps, I can give you more details. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. My engine is the 1.4 TFSI. I'll definitely keep your tip about the engine control unit in mind. My A3 currently has 112345 km on the clock and was recently inspected, but everything was still in order. If you have any more information, I would be really grateful! Best regards!

Hey, no problem. So, on my Audi A4 with the 2.0 TFSI engine, there were a few signs that I also had to have checked. In addition to the engine control unit, it could also be due to a defective mass air flow sensor or clogged injectors. Injectors: If they are clogged or leaking, this can lead to all the symptoms you have described. In my case, the injectors were cleaned and that has helped a lot. Mass air flow sensor: A defective mass air flow sensor can mess up the fuel-air mixture and thus also cause black smoke and loss of power. This didn't end up being the problem for me, but it's definitely worth checking. Ignition coils: Your guess about the ignition coils isn't far-fetched either. Misfiring can definitely cause such problems. The ignition coil on mine was even replaced on suspicion, but it didn't solve the problem. If I were you, I would have a comprehensive diagnosis carried out in the workshop, including reading the fault memory and checking the parts mentioned. Unfortunately, something can always be overlooked at the inspection interval or only become apparent shortly afterwards. Hope this helps you! Keep us up to date with the results. Best regards!

Thanks for the detailed answer! I'll take it all up with the garage and have a comprehensive diagnosis carried out. Hopefully they'll find the right fault soon. I'll keep you posted on what comes out of it. Thanks again for the tips! Best regards!
