Audi A3 Hybrid 2016: Problems with the high-voltage system and low battery performance

Weak battery when starting the engine

General electric malfunction

Problem with the HV-System

Loss of engine power

Hi everyone, I have a strange problem with my 2016 Audi A3 Hybrid. Something is wrong with the HV system, the engine power drops, the battery is weak when starting and there seems to be a general electrical problem. Have any of you had similar problems, possibly due to a fault with the high voltage system? I'd love to hear your experiences and tips, I'm particularly interested in how your garage solved the problem. I am grateful for any tips!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my 2014 Audi A1 Hybrid. I would describe myself as a hobby mechanic with some experience. At my garage, we checked the high-voltage battery thoroughly and it turned out that the high-voltage battery was faulty. I was lucky that the replacement was covered under warranty, so it cost me 0 euros. Could you tell us a bit more about the behavior of your car? For example, whether there are any warning lights, and whether the problem always occurs or only under certain conditions? This could help to better isolate the problem and give you further advice.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Yes, there are indeed some warning lights that come on, mostly the ones for the high voltage system and engine power. It happens quite often, so not really under certain conditions. Maybe I should get the high voltage battery checked like you did. By the way, my mileage is 74168 km, the last service was done recently. But the problem still persists.

Hi, thanks for the additional information! It really looks like it could be the high-voltage battery, as was the case with my A3. Try having the fault read out. This would at least confirm or rule out a specific cause, so that you can start looking for specific solutions. However, caution is advised when replacing the high-voltage battery, as the voltages involved are very high and you need the relevant knowledge. This should therefore be left to a specialist workshop. If you're lucky, it's also a warranty case like mine. With a mileage of just under 74,200 km, it wouldn't be unusual for components to start slowly giving up the ghost, but of course this can always vary. It can always happen that parts fail prematurely. Give us some feedback when you have read out the error and what the results were. Then it may be easier to assess what the next course of action could be.

Hi, thanks for all the help. I will definitely follow your suggestions and try to get the fault read out. Hopefully it's the high voltage battery and I can get it sorted under warranty. I'll get back to you once I have more info. Thanks again and keep your chin up!
