Audi A3 Cabrio Probleme mit dem AGR-Ventil

Shaking while idling

Check engine light on

Engine shuts off by itself

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Strong exhaust smell

Hey guys, I'm having a few problems with my 2007 Audi A3 diesel. The check engine light is on, the engine shuts off by itself and loses power. It also runs rough, smells strongly of exhaust fumes, shudders at idle and generally has no power. I suspect that the EGR valve is not working properly. Have any of you ever had similar problems and could give me a few tips on how to isolate and rectify the problem? What was your experience with the garage and how was it fixed? I look forward to your answers.

Hey, I actually had a similar problem with my 2009 Audi A4 diesel. I'm not a professional, but I do have a bit of experience with cars. The problem also caused the check engine light to come on and the engine to stutter. I had the whole thing checked at a specialist garage as I couldn't fix it myself. After a few tests, they discovered that the EGR valve was defective and stuck. As a result, the car was no longer running smoothly and was losing power. After it was replaced, everything worked as normal again. It cost me around 355 euros. Have you ever had your car checked for other faults? It would be helpful if you could provide more information about your vehicle, especially the exact model, so that we can give you more specific tips.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply, very helpful. My A3 was last inspected at 189765 km. I will definitely have a fault check done. The 355 euros is of course a lot of money, but if that solves the problem, then so be it. I'll keep you posted on how things progress. Thanks again!

Hey, you're welcome! I hope the info has helped you. Good that you're having a fault check done, because that really does sound like an EGR fault. The 355 euros is obviously something to talk about, but bear in mind that you'll end up with a fully functional car. I had to learn that too - sometimes you have to invest to give your car a long life. In addition, a faulty EGR valve can also lead to increased fuel consumption. So I guess we end up saving on fuel costs. Definitely keep us posted on how you get on!
