Audi A2: Signs and experiences with possible knock sensor malfunction

Check engine light on

|

Jerking on acceleration

|

Loss of engine power

|

Weird engine noise

|

Poor fuel economy

Hi folks, my 2005 Audi A2, petrol engine, has almost 190,000 km on the clock and is currently causing me a few worries. Anyone familiar with the following: engine control light is on, noticeable loss of power, the car jerks when accelerating, fuel consumption is enormous and strange noises are coming from the engine compartment - could these be signs of a knock sensor malfunction? Unfortunately, I had a bad experience with this at my last garage and would like to get some opinions. Have any of you had similar problems and can share your experiences? Thanks in advance!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my 2008 Audi A4, diesel, which also had almost 220,000 km on it. At that time, the check engine light was also on and the car had lost power. The jerking was particularly noticeable when accelerating and fuel consumption was also increased. Strange noises were also coming from the engine compartment. My garage then diagnosed that it was really a malfunction of the knock sensor, which was misinterpreting the engine knocks and causing the control unit to react incorrectly. Accordingly, this was a serious problem that needed to be fixed urgently before it could cause any damage. I hope this helps you and you get your problem under control quickly. Best regards!

Hey, great, thanks for your quick reply! The problem with your A4 seems to be really similar to my A2. Your experience gives me some hope that it really is the knock sensor. I'm still wondering if you can remember how much it cost you to have the knock sensor replaced? And have you had any further complications since then or has everything been running smoothly? Greetings back!

Hey, you're welcome, no problem! Yes, it really does seem to be exactly the same problem with your A2. I had the knock sensor on my A4 replaced in the workshop and since then it has been running smoothly again without any further complications. The cost was ok, it was around 215 euros. I was really relieved that the jerking and the strange noises were gone afterwards. I hope this helps you and you get your car back in order soon! Let me know if you have any more questions! Greetings!

Hey, that sounds like a plan! Thanks for the info, that calms me down a bit and gives me an idea of what to expect. The 215 euros sounds pretty good compared to what I was spending before. I really hope it's just the knock sensor and nothing more serious. I'll probably take the car to another garage soon and hope they can fix the problem quickly. Let me know if you have any more tips! Hopefully I'll have fewer breakdowns from now on. Greetings!
