Thanks for sharing your experience. That sounds exactly like what happened in my case! I notice the repair steps you listed match what I went through. My Audi A2 had similar symptoms and the engine knock was quite concerning at first. Did you remember approximately how much the full repair cost? In my case, the fuel filter replacement and system cleaning were just the start, wondering if you discovered any other related issues later on? The contaminated fuel in my combustion chamber caused some additional wear that showed up a few months after the initial fix.

Good to hear back about your Audi A2. After seeing the mechanic, it turned out the core issue was indeed incorrect fuel composition, just as suspected. The engine knock and stalling problems cleared up once we fixed the faulty cable connection to the fuel system component. The total repair came to 95 Euro, which was actually less than expected given the symptoms. The fuel system cleaning and fresh fuel additives helped restore proper fuel economy. Unlike your case, I didnt experience any lingering issues or additional wear after the fix. The mechanic confirmed that catching fuel quality problems early prevented more extensive damage to the injection system. Regular fuel system maintenance and using quality fuel have kept things running smoothly since then. Worth mentioning that wrong fuel or contamination issues can sometimes mask other problems, but in this case the electrical connection was the main culprit affecting the fuel delivery.

I took your advice and got it checked out last week. The mechanic found contaminated fuel had clogged the fuel filter completely. The fuel quality was terrible, apparently water had somehow mixed with the gasoline from that last fill-up. The repair was straightforward but not cheap at 280 Euro. They had to drain the contaminated fuel, clean the fuel system, and install a new fuel filter. The stalling issue disappeared right after fixing it. The check engine light turned out to be related to the fuel mixture being too rich from the contamination. The mechanic showed me the old fuel filter, it was in bad shape with lots of debris. Makes me grateful I didnt wait longer, as it could have damaged the fuel injection system. My engine now runs smooth again and the fuel economy is back to normal. Definitely learned my lesson about being more careful where I fill up.

Had similar symptoms with my 2005 Audi A3 1.6L. The engine stalling at idle often points to fuel delivery issues. A clogged fuel filter combined with contaminated fuel can create these exact symptoms. The fuel contamination entering the combustion chamber can trigger the check engine light and cause irregular idle. My case required cleaning the entire fuel system and replacing the fuel filter as debris had accumulated, restricting proper flow. Important diagnostic steps: Get the error code read first, Check fuel filter service history, Have fuel quality tested for contamination, Inspect electrical connections to fuel pump, Test fuel pressure The engine knock and stalling in my case turned out to be a serious issue requiring immediate attention, as contaminated fuel was damaging internal components. The repair involved dropping the fuel tank to clean it thoroughly. While checking the codes, have them inspect all fuel system components. Putting off repairs could lead to more expensive damage to the fuel injection system.
