Audi A1 from 2010: Difficulties with intake manifold pressure sensor and increased fuel consumption

Unsteady engine

Jerking on acceleration

|

Poor fuel economy

|

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

Hi everyone, I'm a bit worried about my Audi A1, built in 2010, with a petrol engine and a good 150k on the clock. The car no longer pulls properly, jerks when accelerating and drinks fuel like crazy. In addition, the yellow warning light from the engine block has come on. Somehow this sounds to me like a problem with the intake manifold pressure sensor. Have any of you had similar experiences and can give me a tip on how to address this with the mechanic? I didn't have a very good experience last time... Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi, something similar happened to me with my 2013 Audi A3. The engine also jerked when I accelerated and the warning light came on. In my garage, it was determined that the intake manifold pressure sensor was defective. So assume that your feeling is correct. It's a serious problem as a faulty sensor prevents accurate control of the fuel/air mixture, which can lead to the symptoms you describe. It has helped me to tell the mechanic directly that I suspect the intake manifold pressure sensor could be faulty. Then at least he knows that you have already done some research into the matter. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for your reply. It's really stupid that you had the same problem. Can you still remember how much you paid for the repair? And have you had any other problems since then or has everything been fine again?

Hi again, yes, that was really stupid, but since the visit to the mechanic, the problem with the malfunctioning intake manifold pressure sensor has been resolved. I had to fork out €235 to fix a major vacuum leak. Since then everything has been running like clockwork again, no more setbacks. Hope it goes just as smoothly for you!

Many thanks for the information. 235 is not exactly cheap, but the main thing is that the car runs smoothly again afterwards. I will follow your advice and point out the intake manifold pressure sensor directly to the mechanic. Hopefully I won't have any more problems afterwards. Thanks again for your help. I'll let you know how it goes.

P1018 Intake manifold flap After updating the engine control unit (recall 23BK), this error is still displayed (previously only sporadically). According to AUDI, all necessary work on components should be carried out? Should the AUDI partner have repaired the intake manifold flap?

It's possible that the recall update did not address the specific issue with the intake manifold flap. The P1018 code indicates a problem with the intake manifold runner control, which can affect engine performance. I recommend discussing this with your Audi partner to clarify if the recall work included repairs to the intake manifold flap. If not, it might be necessary to have them inspect and potentially repair or replace the faulty component. Let me know how it goes or if you have further questions!
