Thanks for the feedback! My mileage is currently at 139300 KM, and I just had my regular service done last month. Yeah, that whistling sound is exactly what I'm experiencing, especially during acceleration. Haven't had any turbo repairs before, this is actually my first major issue with the car. Did your mechanic mention how long the repair took? Just trying to figure out if I need to arrange alternative transport for work.
Hey again! Yeah, I totally get your concern about the repair time. When I had my Outlander fixed, the whole waste gate valve replacement took about 6-7 hours. My mechanic managed to get it done in one day, but they did tell me to leave the car with them for the full day just to be safe. With your mileage being at 139300 KM, it's actually pretty similar to when mine started acting up (I was around 145000 KM). The fact that you haven't had any previous turbo repairs makes sense, these issues typically start showing up around this mileage mark on these Mitsubishis. In my case, I dropped off the car in the morning and picked it up late afternoon. You might want to arrange alternative transport for a day just to be safe. Better to have a backup plan, right? My mechanic said sometimes these jobs can take longer if they find other worn components while they're in there. One tip though, make sure they check the turbo pipes while they're at it. When they fixed mine, they noticed a small crack in one of the pipes that could've caused problems later. Might save you another trip to the mechanic down the road!
Thanks so much for all the detailed info! That's super helpful, especially about the repair timing. I'll definitely plan for a full day without the car and arrange to work from home that day. Good call about checking the turbo pipes too, I'll make sure to mention that to my mechanic when I take it in. It's really reassuring to hear that your symptoms were so similar to mine and that there was a clear fix. I'll get onto my local Mitsubishi specialist tomorrow morning to book it in. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's made me feel a lot more confident about getting this sorted!
Hey there! I had a very similar issue with my 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander diesel (got some experience with these cars). The symptoms you're describing are exactly what I faced, especially that annoying black smoke and power loss. Turned out to be a faulty waste gate valve in my case. Had it fixed at my local Mitsubishi specialist, cost me around 860€ but totally worth it as it solved all those issues you mentioned. Can you share some more details like your mileage and if you've had any previous turbo-related repairs? This could help determine if you're facing the same problem. Also, is your engine making that characteristic whistling sound mainly when you accelerate? That was a big clue in my case.
