ASX Rear Defroster Dead: Seeking Proven Fix & Mechanic Tips

Fault stored

|

Heated windows without function

Hey everyone, my 2015 Mitsubishi ASX Diesel (99,695 km) has been giving me trouble with the rear window heating. It's completely stopped working, and there's a fault code showing up. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant about going back. Has anyone dealt with something similar? Would love to hear about your experiences and maybe get a recommendation for a reliable fix. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I can relate to your issue. Had a similar problem with my 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Diesel last winter. The rear window heater stopped working completely, and I got a fault code too. Turned out it was more than just the heating element, there was an issue with the electrical connection and a blown fuse. Took it to my local garage and they found that some of the heating element traces on the rear window were broken, plus there was a wiring problem near the connection point. They had to replace part of the wiring harness and check the entire circuit. It wasn't a major repair, but definitely needed a professional touch to get it sorted properly. If you're looking for a fix, I'd suggest finding a garage that specializes in Mitsubishi electrical systems. It's not something you want to leave unfixed, especially heading into colder weather. Mine took about a day to repair, and it's been working perfectly since then. Best of luck!

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm actually relieved to hear I'm not the only one who's had this issue. I just got mine fixed last month and it's working fine now. Can't remember if I mentioned it was a 2015 ASX too, what a coincidence! Hey, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks?

Hey again! Glad to hear you got your ASX fixed! Yeah, with my Eclipse Cross, I just had it sorted last week actually, ended up costing me 290€. It was mainly due to a weak battery that was causing all sorts of electrical gremlins, including the rear window heating playing up. Since they fixed it, everything's working like a charm, including the rear window heater, no more frosty morning struggles! It's kind of funny how these electrical issues can be connected to the battery. The mechanic explained that when the battery's not up to snuff, it can cause all sorts of weird symptoms. But honestly, since getting the new battery and having everything checked, my car's running better than ever. No more unusual electrical quirks or anything. Hope your ASX keeps behaving itself now! These Mitsubishis are generally pretty solid once you sort out any niggles. Drop me a message if you run into any other issues, always happy to share experiences!

Thanks for the update! Yeah, my repair bill was actually quite similar, paid around 275€. The mechanic I finally went with (Auto Elite on Baker Street) did a fantastic job. They found it was a combination of corroded connections and a damaged heating element. Took them about 4 hours to fix everything. Since the repair, everything's been perfect. No more foggy rear window issues during my morning commute! Actually, it's funny you mentioned the battery because they did a full electrical system check while they had it in, and said mine was still good to go. Guess I got lucky there! Really appreciate everyone's help with this. It's such a relief to have it sorted, especially since winter's coming up. Think I've finally found a mechanic I can trust too, which is a huge bonus after my last nightmare experience. Thanks again for all the advice, definitely helped me feel more confident about getting it fixed!
