ASX Headlight Cleaner & Wiper Pump Issues: Solutions?

Headlight cleaning system without function

Hi all, having trouble with my 2010 Mitsubishi ASX (gas). The headlight cleaning system stopped working completely, and I'm getting a rear window wiper fluid pump signal error. Has anyone dealt with this before? Interested in hearing what the actual problem was and how your mechanic fixed it. Any tips or workshop experiences would be helpful. Thanks!

Hey there! I had some experience with a similar issue on my 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander (also had this on my Lancer). I'd say I have some experience with car maintenance, but I'm no expert. My symptoms were pretty much identical to yours, washer pump system failed completely. Took it to my regular workshop and turns out it was just a faulty relay connection with the pump cables. The fix cost me around 165€, and they had it sorted in about an hour. Before I can give you more specific advice, Are you hearing any pump noise when you try to use it? Have you checked the fuse box? Did this happen suddenly or gradually? Let me know these details and I might be able to help you narrow it down!

Hey, thanks for the detailed response! My mileage is at 106,658 KM, and I just had my service last month. Yeah, I'm not hearing any pump noise at all when I try to use it, just complete silence. I've already checked the fuses, and they all seem fine. The weird thing is it happened pretty much overnight. Was working fine one evening, and the next morning, nothing. Would love to know which workshop you went to, sounds like they knew what they were doing with that quick fix. Think I might be dealing with the same relay issue you mentioned.

Hey again! Yeah, seeing those details definitely makes me think it's similar to what I dealt with on my Outlander. When you mentioned the sudden failure with no pump noise, that's exactly how mine went too, working fine one day, completely dead the next. I got mine fixed at Auto-Tech Workshop in the city center (they specialize in Asian car brands). They really know their Mitsubishis inside and out. The relay issue is pretty common in these models, it's like a weak spot in the design or something. Since you've already checked the fuses (which was gonna be my next suggestion), and you're getting that same rear window pump error I had, I'm pretty confident it's the relay/cable connection. Just a heads up, prices might have gone up since I had mine fixed, but it shouldn't be too bad since it's not a complex repair. Quick tip: before you take it in, just double-check your washer fluid level. I know it sounds obvious, but I felt pretty dumb when I once panicked about a similar issue only to find out I was just low on fluid! Though in your case, since you're getting that error message, it's probably the relay thing. Let me know how it goes if you get it fixed! Always good to know if these issues are becoming more common in our models.

Thanks so much for all this info! Really appreciate you sharing your experience and the workshop recommendation. It's super helpful to know it's likely the relay issue, definitely makes me feel better that it's probably not something major. I just checked the washer fluid level (had a good laugh at your story ), and it's completely full. You're right, with that error message and no pump noise, it's gotta be something electrical. I'll give Auto-Tech a call tomorrow and see if they can take a look at it. Thanks again for taking the time to help me figure this out. I'll update you once I get it sorted, might help other ASX owners if they run into the same problem!
