Hey again! Happy to give you an update! So I ended up paying €95 for the repair, not too bad considering how annoying that warning light was! The mechanic found a faulty cable connection to the clutch switch and sorted it right out. I'm glad to say that since getting it fixed at my garage, everything's been working like a charm. The gear display is back to normal, the warning light's gone, and I haven't had any other electrical issues pop up, touch wood! My Insignia's been running smoothly for the past year now. Honestly, it was such a relief to get it sorted. Sometimes these electrical niggles can make you worry it's something major, but in this case, it turned out to be a pretty straightforward fix. If you're still looking for a reliable mechanic, my offer stands, just drop me a DM and I'll share their details. Let me know how you get on with yours! Cheers!
Thanks so much for all the info! I actually took your advice and got it checked out yesterday. The mechanic I found was really straightforward, turns out it was exactly what you described, a worn-out clutch pedal switch and some dodgy wiring. Cost me €110, a bit more than what you paid, but still reasonable. The whole thing took about an hour and a half, and I've got to say, it's such a relief not seeing that warning light anymore! The gear display is working perfectly now too. The mechanic even gave everything a quick once-over and said the rest of the electrical system looks fine. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the confidence to get it sorted instead of worrying about it being something major. The car's running great now, and I've finally found a mechanic I can trust. Thanks again for all your help!
Hey there, I had a similar issue with my 2015 Vauxhall Insignia last year. The symptoms were pretty much identical, gear display acting up and that annoying warning light. Turned out it was indeed the clutch pedal switch connection causing the trouble. When I took it to my garage, they found that the wiring harness connected to the clutch switch had worn out and was making poor contact. The fix wasn't actually too complex, they had to replace the cable connection and the switch itself since they were both damaged from regular wear and tear. It wasn't a serious mechanical issue, more of an electrical one, but it definitely needed fixing to prevent any potential problems with the transmission system. My car had about 120k km when this happened. The repair was pretty straightforward and took them about an hour to complete. Since then, everything's been working perfectly, no more warning lights or display issues. If you're near London, I can recommend the garage I used, just send me a DM. Best of luck!
