Thanks for sharing your experience with the EVAP system repair. My MiTo had similar symptoms and the repairs completely fixed the stalling issue. Just curious, how much did the purge valve replacement and system cleaning cost you? Worth knowing for future reference. Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix? No more emission system codes or idle problems?

Yes, things have been running perfectly since I got the tank ventilation system repaired. The mechanic discovered clogged hoses were the main culprit and took care of that for 175 Euro, which was quite reasonable considering the detailed work involved. The emission system has been functioning flawlessly, no more check engine lights or stalling issues. The most important part was finding a mechanic who properly diagnosed the problem instead of just replacing parts. They thoroughly cleaned the ventilation pathways and checked all connections. Its been three months now and the idle is smooth, fuel economy is back to normal, and the engine runs like new. If your symptoms match what I experienced, you made the right call getting it fixed. These ventilation system issues tend to get worse if left unaddressed and can lead to more expensive repairs down the line.

Really glad I asked here before going to just any mechanic. I took my MiTo to a recommended specialist who actually knew about automotive repair issues with these models. The whole EVAP system service came to 220 Euro, which included replacing the gas cap seal they found was also leaking. The check engine light cleared right after the repair and the idle is perfect now. The mechanic showed me the old clogged components, it was pretty bad. They mentioned regular fuel system cleaning could help prevent these issues in the future. Much better experience than my last repair attempt where I wasted money on unnecessary parts. Good to have this sorted properly. Its been running great for the past few weeks.

Had the same problem with my 2013 Alfa Giulietta last month. The check engine light came on and the engine would stall, especially during warm-up. The emission system showed multiple fault codes related to the purge valve and tank ventilation system. The issue turned out to be clogged ventilation hoses between the fuel tank and the purge valve, combined with a faulty purge valve. Carbon deposits had built up over time, blocking proper fuel vapor flow. This is actually a common problem on these engines after 100000km. The fix required: Cleaning the entire tank ventilation system, Replacing the purge valve, Clearing fault codes, Testing system pressure While not immediately dangerous, this issue needs addressing soon. Running with a blocked ventilation system can damage other components and affect fuel economy. The repair is straightforward for an experienced mechanic who knows these engines. The engine light disappeared after repairs and the idle problems were completely resolved. Make sure to use a mechanic familiar with Alfa emission systems, as proper diagnosis is crucial for this specific issue.
