Thanks for the detailed explanation on the heater core and valve issue. The blockage explanation makes perfect sense given my car heating symptoms. I will definitely ask those questions about diagnostic testing and warranty coverage. Would you mind sharing what the repair cost was in your case? Also curious if youve had any related car heating or cooling system problems since getting it fixed? My local shops are quoting quite a range of prices and Im trying to get a sense of what reasonable costs might be for this type of repair on an Alfa.

After getting the car valve issue diagnosed and fixed, I haven't experienced any more problems with the heating or cooling system. The repair turned out to be straightforward, just a faulty electrical connection to the water valve that controls coolant flow to the heater core. The total repair cost came to 95 Euro, which included diagnosing the valve blockage and fixing the cable connection. This was much less than I initially feared, since some shops were quoting significantly higher amounts assuming a full heater core replacement would be needed. The cooling system has worked flawlessly since the repair. The cabin heats up properly now and the warning light hasnt returned. Make sure your mechanic thoroughly checks the electrical connections to the valve before assuming more extensive repairs are needed. Sometimes the simplest solution is the correct one, especially when dealing with car valve issues that affect heater core performance. Most importantly, get the issue addressed soon, leaving a valve blockage unfixed can lead to more serious cooling system problems down the road.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I took my Brera to a certified repair shop and got it sorted. The mechanic found a partially stuck water valve, just as suggested. They cleaned out the valve assembly and replaced a worn electrical connector. The repair ended up costing 180 Euro, which included full diagnostic testing of the cooling system and heater core. Pretty reasonable considering some shops were quoting 500 Euro+ for more extensive work. The cabin heat now works perfectly and that annoying warning light is gone. The engine coolant flows properly to the heater core with no more valve blockage issues. My only regret is not getting it fixed sooner. For anyone with similar symptoms, definitely worth having the water valve checked first before assuming you need major repairs. A blocked or faulty valve can mimic more serious cooling system problems.

Had a similar issue on my 2013 Alfa Romeo 159 where the heater core performance dropped significantly. The main cause was a valve blockage in the coolant circuit that restricted flow to the heater core. The warning light often indicates restricted coolant flow rather than a complete system failure. While checking the obvious coolant leak points is good, the issue typically stems from the water valve that controls flow to the heater core getting stuck in a partially closed position. The cooling system may appear fine since enough coolant still circulates through the engine, but the restricted flow to the heater core causes poor cabin heating. The repair involved cleaning the valve assembly and verifying proper operation of the electronic actuator that controls it. This is generally a moderate repair that requires some disassembly to access the valve components, but its not a catastrophic issue if addressed promptly. Without proper repair, it can lead to more extensive heater core damage over time. Key questions for your mechanic: Can they verify proper valve operation with diagnostic tools, Will they pressure test the entire cooling system, Do they have experience with Alfa Romeo heating systems, What warranty is offered on the repair
