Alfa 147 IAT Sensor Causing Power Loss and CEL Issues

My Alfa 147 is acting up with a check engine light and running rough lately. The engine power seems weak and there are error codes stored. I suspect the IAT sensor might be causing these issues. The car has 68383 KM on the clock and runs on gas. Has anyone dealt with similar engine issues? Would be great to hear your experience before I head to a mechanic, as my last repair visit was quite disappointing. Looking for tips on diagnosis and potential repair costs for the air sensor replacement.

Had the same symptoms on my Alfa GT with the 2.0 JTS engine. The check engine light came on and the car showed similar behavior, sluggish acceleration and rough idle. A diagnostic scan revealed the IAT sensor was sending incorrect temperature readings to the ECU. The intake air temperature sensor was indeed faulty, causing the engine to run with incorrect fuel mixture. When the air sensor fails, the ECU cant properly calculate the air density entering the engine, leading to performance issues. The repair itself was straightforward. The temperature sensor location made it accessible, mounted on the intake manifold. The mechanic tested the sensor readings, confirmed the malfunction, and replaced the IAT sensor unit. After replacement, the engine response improved immediately and the check engine light cleared. This is typically not a serious issue, but driving with a faulty IAT sensor long-term can affect fuel economy and potentially cause additional engine issues if left unattended. The symptoms match perfectly with a failing air sensor, its worth getting it checked soon to prevent any cascade problems with the fuel system. Make sure to get the proper OEM part, as aftermarket sensors can sometimes cause compatibility issues with Alfa Romeo engines.

I had very similar engine issues with my 147. My car diagnostics showed the same IAT sensor problem, which was causing poor performance and that annoying check engine light. The repair solved all the problems and the car runs perfectly now. The intake air sensor replacement made a huge difference, better acceleration and smoother idle. No other issues have come up in the months since the fix. Would you mind sharing what the repair cost at your shop? Just curious how prices compare, since I paid around 180 Euro for parts and labor combined.

Thanks for the update about your 147. After taking my Alfa GT to the mechanic, they diagnosed and fixed the faulty intake air temperature sensor. The total cost came to 155 Euro including parts and labor, which seems reasonable compared to your repair bill. The diagnostic tool confirmed what we suspected, the air sensor was sending incorrect readings. Since the fix, my car has been running great with proper engine response and no check engine lights. The mechanic mentioned that air temperature readings are now accurate, which helps the ECU optimize the fuel mixture. Like your experience, the intake air sensor replacement completely resolved the rough running and weak power issues. These car sensor problems may seem minor, but they can really impact engine performance when not working correctly. Its good to hear both our Alfas are running smoothly now, seems we made the right call getting the repairs done promptly rather than risking further issues.

I finally took my Alfa to the shop and wanted to share my experience. The mechanic ran a diagnostic tool and confirmed our suspicions about the air temperature sensor. The repair was much smoother than my previous garage visit. The temperature sensor replacement took about an hour, and the total cost was 165 Euro. The mechanic showed me the old sensor readings compared to the new ones, the difference was significant. He mentioned that faulty air sensors often cause the exact engine issues I experienced. Right after the fix, I noticed immediate improvements. The check engine light disappeared, and the rough running completely cleared up. The car feels much more responsive now, especially during acceleration. Its been two weeks since the repair, and all engine issues are resolved. Glad I checked the forum before going to the shop, helped me point the mechanic in the right direction and avoid unnecessary diagnostics. The repair cost was reasonable, and the car runs like new again.
