Airbag warning light on a diesel Golf VW 2010

Airbag warning light

Fault stored

Greetings, I have a strange problem with my diesel Golf VW 2010. The warning light for the airbag comes on. I am wondering what the problem is with the airbag system. Have you guys ever had a problem like this and could give me tips on how to isolate the problem? What have your garages done to solve this problem and what experiences have you had? Many thanks in advance!

Hey, I've had the same problem with my Golf (2008). The repair only cost €100 at the time, but I can't remember exactly what caused it.

Hey, thanks for your reply! Well, my Golf is otherwise running perfectly and has 231489 km on it, the only problem is this airbag warning light. I've got the MOT coming up again soon, so unfortunately that's not going to happen. I hope this helps to narrow down the problem. Do you have any other tips that could help me?

Hi, I also had a problem with my 2012 Golf. In my case, it was a problem with the airbag control unit. If there's a problem there, the warning light may come on. At my garage, they first read out the control unit. The repair wasn't that expensive at €200. Apparently it was enough to reset the control unit. But it could also be something more complicated, e.g. a loose contact or a faulty connection in the system, or in the worst case a control unit error.

Thanks for your reply, that definitely sounds like a possibility. I'd better visit a workshop after all. Safety first. Thanks again for the help!

The error message could be due to a faulty sensor or a loose connection. Start by checking the wiring under the passenger seat for any loose connections or visible damage. If everything seems fine, the issue might be with the sensor itself. In this case, I would recommend taking your car to a professional mechanic for a proper diagnosis.
