Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Hey folks, I've got a bit of a funky situation with my 2022 Renault Arkana with a Hybrid engine. Lately, it's been coughing up black smoke when I accelerate and I've noticed the engine light coming on. It also feels like it loses power, judders every time I push the gas, and gulps down more fuel than usual. I think the lambda sensor heater might be the suspect here, but it's just a hunch. Have any of you experienced something similar? How did you or your mechanic manage to corner the issue? Any insight would be a massive help. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I had a similar issue a couple years back with my 2020 Renault Kadjar, must be a Renault thing. I've got some experience with car mechanics, by no mean an expert, but I dabble. In my case, it was indeed the lambda sensor heater that was the culprit. Had it fixed at my local garage, costed me a pretty penny, around 375 euro, to be exact. I suggest you find a trusted mechanic who knows Renaults and have him take a look. Can you share more about your vehicle? Maybe the mileage, recent services or parts replaced, etc. could help us figure this out quicker. It's always easier to pinpoint issues with a bit more detail. Hope this helps, and let us know how it goes!

Hey, Appreciate the response and advice you've given! To give you a bit more detail, my Arkana has racked up 117308 km so far, and just had its latest service not long ago. But didn’t have any issues or parts replaced during the service. I'll definitely find a trusted mechanic who's familiar with Renault hybrids and have them check it out. I hope it's just the lambda sensor heater and not something more serious. I'll drop an update once it's sorted. Cheers for the help!

Hey there, Glad to help out! Sounds like you've been taking good care of your Arkana, so it might well be the lambda sensor heater acting up again. As for being more serious, I wouldn't worry too much yet. These symptoms can surely be annoying and unsettling, but usually, they don't indicate a catastrophic issue. Given that your Renault is a hybrid, the check engine light might be due to some emissions-related error detected by the computer. Lambda sensor being one part of the emissions system could be the possible pitfall. Stay positive, and let's hope it's an easy (and not too expensive) fix. Looking forward to hearing your update. Safe driving until then!

Hey, Your words are definitely comforting! I was starting to fear it might be a bigger, more expensive problem. Toxic emissions-related errors make sense, given the symptoms. Crossing my fingers that it's the lambda sensor and nothing more complex. Once I have it checked and sorted, I’ll come back with an update. Thanks for the vote of confidence and sound advice, really appreciate it! Safe travels to you too!
