ABS warning light on Renault Scenic 2021: Possible malfunction of the wheel speed sensor

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

ABS warning light

ABS/DSC system is not working

Fault stored

Hey guys, I need your help. I drive a 2021 Renault Scenic with a gasoline engine and have already driven 12808 km. Unfortunately I have problems with my ABS, the light always comes on and my speedometer also shows a warning light. My car has even saved the error. My guess is a malfunction of the wheel speed sensor (ABS sensor). Have any of you ever had similar symptoms and can tell me how your mechanic tackled the problem? I would be grateful for any advice, especially after my last garage experience I am a bit worried. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I feel you, had a similar problem with my 2018 Renault Clio, was a real pain. The ABS control unit was faulty in my case. As you suspect, the ABS warning lights were on and the error message was also stored in the system. At the final workshop visit, the mechanic hooked up a diagnostic tool to identify the exact problem. It turned out that the ABS control unit was not working properly, as I had suspected. I remember it being a pretty serious issue as the ABS system is critical to braking performance and a faulty ABS can have serious consequences. You ended up replacing the ABS control unit, which is the backbone of the ABS system. So the replacement part might be a good first step in your case. That's my experience, hope it's helpful for you! Regards!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply and the detailed info, really helpful! It sounds like you ended up with a good mechanic who recognized the problem and also fixed it properly. Now I'm a little less worried. I hope it's just the ABS control unit or sensor on my Scenic. Do you happen to remember how much you ended up having to pay for the repair? And have there been any further problems since then or has your Clio been running smoothly again since the replacement? Thanks again! Best regards!

Hey, thanks for your feedback. My Clio has been running like clockwork again since the visit to the garage. As you rightly say, the mechanic did a great job. After he sorted out the issue with the ABS control unit, my problems with the ABS were finally history. As for the cost, I can tell you that I had to put a total of €1000 on the table. That was quite a hefty sum, but considering that handling and safety were at stake, the price was justified. Since then, the wheel speed sensor (ABS sensor) malfunction has been fixed and I've had no more problems. Regardless of whether the ABS control unit or the sensor is the problem, you should definitely have it fixed. So, don't worry, everything will be fine! Stay relaxed and don't get stressed! Best regards!

Hey, thanks for the tip and for sharing your experience, that takes away some of my worries. 1000 € is a lot of money, but I see it the same way, safety first. I will definitely go to the garage straight away and have it checked. With luck, it's only the ABS sensor in my Scenic and not the entire control unit, which would of course be a relief. Hopefully things will go as smoothly for me as they did for you and I'll soon be able to drive again without constantly staring at the warning lights. I'm pleased that your Clio is running smoothly again and I'll keep my fingers crossed that it stays that way! Thanks again for your help and the reassuring words, that was really worth its weight in gold. Stay healthy and best wishes!
