ABS warning light illuminated and brake light defective - experience and tips wanted

ABS warning light

Brake light not working

Hello everyone, I've recently started having problems with my 2008 Alhambra Seat Diesel. The ABS warning light comes on and the brake light doesn't work. I suspect it could be a faulty brake light switch, but I'm not sure. Have any of you ever had a similar problem and can give me some tips or share experiences? How was the problem solved in the workshop? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, I had similar problems with my Alhambra Seat Diesel from 2010, which is almost the same model as yours. I took it to my garage and they confirmed the fault quite quickly: Defective brake light switch. The whole thing cost me 130 euros and the problem was solved. It could be that your problem is the same, but it's always difficult to tell by remote diagnosis. My tip is to go to the garage and have it checked. Don't gamble with safety. To be able to give you more details, I would need information about your vehicle, how many kilometers have you driven? Are there any other symptoms? Hopefully I've been able to help you. Greetings!

Hello, thanks for your quick reply. My Alhambra already has quite a bit of mileage on it, just under 266000 km. Apart from that, there aren't many additional symptoms, sometimes the brake pedal is a bit spongy, but that could also be due to age... I think I should really follow your recommendation and visit a garage. 130 euros doesn't sound too dramatic at first. Thanks again for your advice. Greetings!

Hey, I had exactly the same problem with my 2015 Seat Leon. In my case, it was actually the brake wear indicator that was worn out. After the warning light flashed, I immediately went to the garage. The guys there identified and repaired it quite quickly. It also cost me just over 450 euros at the time. In my opinion, this is the safest way. Under no circumstances should you ignore such warning lights, especially when it comes to the brakes. So make an appointment at the garage, they can definitely help you. And yes, it can cost a bit, but as you've already said: safety first! Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Hello, thank you for your feedback and advice. It seems to be really important to have it checked immediately at the garage. I will make an appointment tomorrow morning and hope that it really is just the brake wear indicator and nothing more serious. Your experience has helped me a lot - thanks again! I'll definitely keep you posted as soon as I know more. See you then!
