ABS system and power steering failed in Ford CrownVictoria 2010: Experiences and solutions wanted

ABS/DSC system is not working

Power steering without function

Vibrating/shaking steering wheel

Hi guys, I am very worried about my 2010 Ford CrownVictoria with a gasoline engine and 131709 km on the odometer. Currently the ABS system and power steering are not working and the steering wheel is vibrating and shaking extremely. I suspect it could be a signal error in the electric power steering. Have any of you ever had similar problems with your car and how did it go at the mechanic? My last visit there was not exactly pleasant and I would like to get more insight. Thanks in advance for your help and experience!

Hi, I had similar problems with my 2013 Ford Mustang. It looked pretty familiar to me, and sure enough, the ECU was faulty. Same ABS issue and vibrations on the steering wheel - exactly as you described. After reading the fault memory, the ECU was identified as the source of the problem. This had to be replaced. It was a serious issue, not something you can just ignore. So, I would advise you to have it checked by a specialist. As soon as possible. I'll wait for your update and hope it's nothing more serious. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the quick feedback! That sounds really tough, just like my Ford CrownVictoria. The replacement of the control unit is really annoying but necessary. Do you happen to remember how much it cost you in the end? And did anything else occur after the replacement or has everything been running smoothly since then? Greetings and thanks again for the support!

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! Yes, you're right, the repair was quite a job. In the end, replacing the control unit cost me €415. But when you consider that safety on the road is always the top priority, it was worth it. And as for the electric power steering, after the visit to the mechanic, the signal error was completely rectified. Since then, everything has been tip-top, no more shaking and no more vibrations - everything is fine. In short, after the repair, everything is running smoothly again. Keep me posted on how things go for you and keep your fingers crossed that it doesn't cause any more problems. See you then!

Hello again, that's very helpful to know and reassures me a little, thank you! 415 is a hefty price, but safety does indeed come first and you shouldn't cut corners. I'm glad to hear that everything has been running smoothly for you since the replacement. I'll be making an appointment with the mechanic soon and hope that everything goes as smoothly for me as it did for you. I'll get back to you as soon as I have any news. Thanks again and have a nice day!

Hello, Have you ever checked whether the tie rod or something else on the chassis is worn out? It should also be checked whether the brakes have lateral run-out or if there is an imbalance in the wheels. MFG
