ABS warning light

Hi, I have a problem with my 2001 BMW 3 series gasoline engine. The ABS warning light is on, the ABS/DSC system is not working properly, and the speedometer is showing a warning light. I also have an error message in memory. I suspect that the problem lies with the functional limitation of the ASC system. Have any of you had a similar problem and can help me to narrow it down and understand it? In particular, I would be interested to know how your garage solved the problem and what experience you have gained. I look forward to your tips and experiences!

My BMW 5 Series from 99 also had something like this. At the time, my ASC relay was defective. I don't know much about cars, so I went to the garage and had it repaired. It cost me about 90 euros. Maybe it's the ASC relay for you too? Could you give me a bit more information about your car? Then I might be able to help you a little more precisely. Which workshop did you visit? Have you experienced anything similar before? With a little more information, I could better compare my experience with your situation.

Hey, thanks for your answer. My car is a 2001 3 series BMW with gasoline engine and has already 287418 km down. I haven't had the same problem before, so this is completely new to me. I've been to a small garage around the corner from me - they always do a good job with my car. But they seemed really lost this time and couldn't say exactly what the problem might be. The ASC relay sounds good, maybe that's faulty in my car too. 90 euros doesn't sound too bad, I was worried that the repair would be expensive. I will definitely ask about this ASC relay the next time I go to the garage. Hopefully that's the cause! Thanks again for your tip!

Hey, it looks like we ended up in the same boat! I drive a 2002 BMW 3 series diesel and had pretty much the same problem. The ABS warning light was on, the ABS/DSC system was acting up and the warning light in the speedometer was going on and off wherever it wanted. I also had an error in the memory, which indicated a functional restriction in the ASC system. I've always been to the garage around the corner, they're really great and helped me again this time. It turns out you were right: the problem was the ASC relay. It stopped working for me and that's why all these errors occurred. They said that this often happens, especially in cars with so many kilometers on the clock. The repair wasn't too expensive for me either, it cost about 100 euros. It was definitely worth it - since then everything has been running smoothly again. I hope this helps you and that you have as much luck with your repair as I did!

Hey, thanks for your experience! That's very helpful to know. It sounds like the ASC relay could really be the culprit. The 100 euros for the repair sounds absolutely fine. I almost feel like I might not have to despair so much anymore. I will definitely point this out at my next garage visit and get it checked. I really appreciate your help guys! It's reassuring to know that I'm not the only one with this problem and that there might be a relatively simple and inexpensive solution. I'll keep you posted and report back on what the garage eventually finds out. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Hello everyone, I once had a BMW E46 3 Series in which the drive shafts were so rusty that the ABS sensor had rubbed against the encoder wheel of the drive shaft and so the ABS system no longer worked. The workshop then replaced the drive shafts and the sensors. After the repair, the error message no longer appeared and everything worked again without any problems. I think I paid around €800. MFG
