ABS Failure & Power Loss in '05 Mitsubishi eK, Help!

Loss of engine power

ABS/DSC system is not working

ABS warning light

Loss of traction

Hey everyone, my 2005 Mitsubishi eK is giving me headaches. The engine's losing power, and both ABS and traction control have stopped working. The ABS warning light is constantly on. I suspect it might be related to the speed sensor's voltage supply, but I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Would love to hear about your repair experiences and what the actual problem turned out to be. Thanks!

Hey there! I had a pretty similar issue with my 2007 Mitsubishi Colt. The symptoms were exactly the same, ABS light on, drop in power, and traction control acting up. Turned out the wheel speed sensor was faulty and needed replacement. Had it checked at my local workshop, and they found that the sensor itself was defective. Got it replaced for about 170 Euro and that fixed everything, no more warning lights or power issues. Just to help you better, could you share if you notice any specific conditions when these issues occur (like wet weather or after driving for a while)? Also, have you had any recent work done on the brakes or wheels? If you want, I can share more details about my experience with this fix. The Colt and eK share some similar components, so it might be relevant to your case.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Yeah, I'm noticing these issues mostly after driving for about 15-20 minutes, and it doesn't seem weather-dependent. Just had my service done last month, and they didn't mention anything unusual. Currently at 143281 KM and wondering if anyone else had this pop up around similar mileage? Your Colt story sounds spot on, might have to check those sensors. Was the replacement pretty straightforward at your workshop?

Hey again! Yeah, my Colt was actually around 150,000 KM when this happened, pretty close to your mileage! The replacement was super straightforward at the workshop, took them less than an hour to fix it. The timing of your issues (15-20 mins into driving) is exactly what I experienced too. At first, I thought it might be something more serious with the engine management system, but nope, just that pesky sensor. The fact that it's not weather-dependent is another clue that matches my experience. Since you mentioned your recent service, did they do any wheel bearing work? Because in my case, the mechanic said the sensor issue started right after I had my wheel bearings checked a few months before. Apparently, if they're not super careful during bearing work, it can sometimes affect the sensor. BTW, the repair cost might be different now (mine was back in 2019), but it was totally worth it. The car's been running like a charm since then. If you decide to get it checked, make sure they test all the speed sensors, sometimes they can't tell which one's faulty just from the warning lights alone. My mechanic had to check each one individually to find the culprit. Let me know if you want any more details about the repair process, happy to share what I learned from my experience!

Thanks so much for all that detailed info! Actually, no wheel bearing work was done during my service, just the usual oil change and filters. It's really helpful to know that your issue showed up around the same mileage as mine. I'll definitely get those sensors checked out first before looking into anything more complicated. I've got a trusted workshop nearby, so I'll give them a call tomorrow and mention what you've shared. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain everything, feels much better having a clearer idea of what might be wrong. I'll update this thread once I get it sorted out!
