ABS & DSC Lights: Outlander Transmission Mystery

ABS/DSC system is not working

Hey! I need some advice regarding my 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander (gas engine, 113k km). My ABS and DSC warning lights came on recently, and I think it might be related to low or worn-out transmission fluid. I had a bad experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar warning lights on their Outlander? What was the actual cause, and can you recommend a trustworthy mechanic who's good with Mitsubishis? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2014 Mitsubishi ASX (gasoline). The ABS and stability control lights came on around 108k km, and I was worried at first. Took it to my mechanic last month, and it turned out the gear oil was pretty worn out. The metal particles in the old fluid were messing with the sensors. The fix wasn't too complex, they did a complete transmission fluid flush and replacement. The mechanic showed me how dark and contaminated the old fluid was. Everything went back to normal after the service, and the warning lights disappeared. In my case, it wasn't a serious issue, but it's definitely something you want to get checked soon to prevent any transmission damage. These symptoms are pretty common in Mitsubishis when they need a transmission fluid service. Quick tip: look for a garage that specializes in Asian cars, particularly Mitsubishi. They'll know exactly what to look for with these specific warning lights.

Hey, thanks so much for sharing your experience! Glad to hear it was just the transmission fluid in your case. That's actually really helpful to know. Would you mind telling me roughly how much you ended up paying for the fluid flush and replacement? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed anything else pop up? I'm keeping my fingers crossed my issue is as straightforward as yours was!

Hey again! Happy to help with more details about my experience. Yeah, after getting it fixed last month, I paid exactly 365€ for the complete transmission fluid service on my ASX. Not the cheapest day at the mechanic, but definitely worth it to prevent bigger issues down the road! I'm pleased to report that everything's been running like a charm since the fluid replacement. No warning lights, no weird noises, nothing! The car feels much smoother when shifting gears too, which was a nice bonus I wasn't expecting. My mechanic showed me the old fluid, and it was pretty nasty, all dark and contaminated. The new fluid made a world of difference. So yeah, if your symptoms are similar to what I experienced, there's a good chance it's the same issue. Just make sure to find a good mechanic who knows their way around Mitsubishis. I got lucky with mine, they really knew what they were doing with these cars. Fingers crossed you get it sorted just as easily! Let me know how it goes!

Thanks for all the details! I actually got it checked out yesterday at a specialist Asian car garage I found. You were spot on, it was the transmission fluid! Mine was in even worse shape than yours by the sound of it. The mechanic was great, showed me everything, and explained what was going on. Ended up paying a bit more, around 400 €, but they also did a general inspection while they were at it. The car's running so much better now, those warning lights disappeared right away, and like you said, the gear shifts are way smoother. Really appreciate your help! If I hadn't known about your experience, I might've put it off longer and caused more damage. The mechanic I found seems pretty trustworthy too, so that's a bonus. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
