ABS & DSC Failure in QX Hybrid: Speed Sensor Suspect?

ABS/DSC system is not working

Hey all, having trouble with my 2021 Infiniti QX Hybrid. The ABS and DSC aren't working, got warning lights on both the ABS and speedometer cluster, and the system's storing a fault. I suspect it might be a speed sensor issue. Has anyone dealt with something similar? What was the actual problem and how did your mechanic fix it? Looking for real experiences to help pinpoint the issue before taking it to the shop. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2019 Infiniti Q50 Hybrid. I've got some experience working with cars, but mostly basic maintenance stuff. Had the exact same symptoms ABS and DSC lights came on, plus warning lights in the cluster. Took it to my trusted workshop, and it turned out the ABS control unit was shot. Set me back about 1000€, but it fixed everything perfectly. No issues since then. Before I share more specific details about my repair experience, how many miles/km on your QX? Have you noticed any other warning lights? Any unusual brake behavior?

Thanks for the reply! My QX has 98963 KM, and just had its service last month. Actually, I've noticed the brake pedal feels a bit spongy too, especially when I'm coming to a full stop. No other warning lights besides the ABS and DSC though. The car still drives fine, but I'm a bit nervous about the whole situation. That's quite a hefty repair bill you had there hoping mine isn't the control unit, but seems like it could be. Did you notice any weird brake feel before yours needed fixing?

Hey again! Yeah, funny you mention the spongy brake feel that's exactly what I experienced with my Q50 before the repair. Around the 95K km mark, I started noticing that weird pedal feedback, especially during slower stops. It's like déjà vu hearing your description! The symptoms are really similar to what I dealt with. Mine also drove fine otherwise, but that brake pedal feel was definitely a red flag. Actually, before I got the ABS control unit replaced, my mechanic first checked the brake fluid and bled the system just to rule out any air in the lines, but that wasn't the issue. Given your mileage is pretty close to where mine was when it failed (I was at about 93K km), and you're describing almost identical symptoms, I'm betting you're looking at the same problem. I know it's not the news you wanted to hear, especially considering the repair cost, but at least you won't waste time chasing other potential issues. One tip though when you get it fixed, make sure they use the genuine Infiniti part. My mechanic initially suggested an aftermarket unit, but I stuck with OEM and haven't had a single issue since. Worth the extra cash in my opinion. Let me know how it goes when you get it checked out!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! It's actually really helpful knowing someone else went through the exact same thing, especially with such similar mileage. You're probably right about the ABS control unit everything just matches up too perfectly to be a coincidence. I'll definitely take your advice about sticking with the OEM part too, even if it costs more. Rather do it right the first time than deal with more headaches later. I've just called my local Infiniti dealer and booked it in for next Tuesday. Going to mention your experience to them as well might help them diagnose it faster. Really appreciate you taking the time to share all this. I'll try to remember to update you on what they find!
