My A4 has 23995 KM and had its last service about 6 months ago. I checked under the car and noticed small oil spots, which might explain the transmission fault symptoms. Thanks for sharing your experience, the repair steps and costs are really helpful to know. The error codes Im getting are P0842 and P0847, which seem to match your description of low transmission oil and pressure sensor issues.
Those error codes typically indicate transmission oil pressure circuit issues, which matches perfectly with what I experienced. The oil spots you found are definitely concerning and support my initial diagnosis of a transmission oil level problem combined with a potential pressure switch fault. When I had this issue, the workshop explained that low transmission oil can damage the pressure sensor over time. The leaking oil in your case has likely affected both the sensor readings and actual transmission performance, similar to what happened with my car. The repair process should be similar to mine: Find and fix the oil leak source, Verify transmission oil level, Test the transmission pressure switch, Replace faulty components, System reset and adaptation Based on your relatively low mileage and recent service, the leak might be from a loose fitting or damaged seal rather than general wear. This could make the repair simpler and potentially less expensive than my 365 Euro repair. Consider getting it checked soon, as continuous low oil conditions can lead to more serious transmission damage. The transmission fault warnings and grinding sounds are the systems protective response, but prolonged operation could cause additional issues.
Given what you shared about the low oil and pressure sensor issues, Ill get the car checked at a workshop this week. The oil spots and error codes P0842 and P0847 definitely point to transmission oil pressure problems like you experienced. The transmission fault symptoms started suddenly, but knowing it could be related to a simple oil leak gives me some relief. My relatively low mileage of 23995 KM and recent service also make me hopeful its not a major transmission failure. Appreciate you breaking down your repair experience and costs. Ill have them check both the oil leak and pressure switch to hopefully prevent any additional transmission damage. Will get the oil level corrected first and then see if the sensor needs replacement too. Thanks again for sharing your similar experience. This gives me a much better idea of what to expect during the repair process and potential costs.
I had a very similar issue with my 2006 A6 2.0T last summer. I have some experience working on cars but always get professional help with transmission-related problems. The transmission fault warning and rough shifting turned out to be caused by low transmission oil level, which triggered the pressure switch safety system. Initially, I also thought it was just a faulty oil sensor, but the workshop confirmed the actual oil level was well below minimum. The repair process involved: Complete transmission oil level check using a pressure gauge, Transmission oil top-up, Replacement of the transmission oil pressure sensor, System reset and adaptation Total cost was 365 Euro including parts and labor. The car has been running perfectly since then with no transmission fault warnings or rough shifting. Before suggesting specific solutions for your A4, could you share: Current mileage, When was the last transmission service done, Are there any oil spots visible under the car, Which specific error codes are stored This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced or if it might be something different.
