A3 Sedan problems with the DPF

Hi guys, I have a small problem with my 2014 Audi A3 diesel - the car has been behaving really strangely recently. When accelerating, black smoke comes out of the exhaust, the engine light is on, the performance drops and the DPF regeneration also seems to be failing. The exhaust also smells strong and unusual. Do you think my diesel particulate filter is heavily loaded? Have you ever had similar problems and can you give me any troubleshooting tips? It would be really great to hear about your experiences in the workshop and how you solved the problem. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I can understand what you're talking about. I had a similar case with my 2012 Audi A4 diesel, my car experience is limited so I'm not a complete expert but I know a bit about it. At my garage they found that my diesel particulate filter was faulty due to the high mileage, similar to yours. The repair cost me around 1550 euros. To be able to help you more precisely, some additional information about your car would be helpful. For example, what is the mileage of your Audi A3? Did the problem occur regularly or only sporadically? The more details you provide, the better we can help you. Hope this helps for now!

Thanks for your answer. My mileage is 234567 km. I've had the car serviced regularly, but the problem has been occurring more and more often recently. I'm just a bit afraid that the repair costs will be too high... But well, if that's the way it has to be, then that's the way it is. Thanks again for your support!

Hey, no problem! At this mileage, it's not unusual for the diesel particulate filter to be heavily loaded and cause problems. Have you tried forced regeneration by driving slowly and steadily on the highway for 20-30 minutes? Sometimes this helps and the DPF is relieved a little. Nevertheless, if your problems persist, then it's probably due for a repair. That's a shame, but it can also be a good thing, because you can then continue driving with a clear conscience. Of course, 1550 euros is not cheap, but it was very similar for me. There are also cheaper alternatives, such as replacing it with a reconditioned DPF. That might save you money. Just go to a garage for advice, the guys there know their stuff. Hope that helps you! Good luck!

Hello, thank you very much for the information! Your suggestion to carry out a forced regeneration sounds promising - I will definitely try that. Otherwise, I'll probably bite the bullet and take the car to the garage. Replacing it with a reconditioned DPF also sounds like an option worth considering. I just hope that my Audi will soon be running smoothly again. Thanks again for your advice and support!
