Thanks for sharing your experience! That definitely sounds similar to what I'm going through. I got mine fixed last month using a Porsche specialist in town, what a difference it made! Quick question though, do you remember roughly how much you paid for the full injector replacement? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Just trying to get an idea of what to expect down the road.
Hey again! Yeah, I remember the costs pretty well, I paid 515€ for fixing those defective injectors. And I'm happy to report that since seeing the mechanic, my Cayman's been running absolutely perfect! The rough engine issue is completely gone, and it feels like I got a whole new car. Haven't had a single problem pop up since the repair, which was about 8 months ago now. The engine's purring like a kitten, fuel economy is spot-on, and that annoying shake at idle is history. Best money I've spent on the car, to be honest! If you've just had yours fixed, you should be good to go for quite a while. These Porsche engines are pretty solid once you sort out the injector issues. Just keep up with regular maintenance, and you shouldn't see this problem again. How's yours running since the fix? Bet you're noticing a huge difference too!
I can't tell you how relieved I am! After getting my 997 back from the specialist, it's like driving a completely different car. The whole repair set me back about 600€, which honestly feels worth every penny now. They showed me the old injectors too, they were pretty shot. Funny story actually, when I went to pick up the car, I almost didn't recognize the engine sound because it was running so smoothly! The mechanic got a good laugh out of my reaction. No more shaking, the power's back, and that awful exhaust smell is gone. Even my fuel costs have dropped significantly. Really appreciate everyone's input here. Sometimes it's just about finding the right specialist who knows what they're doing. I'll definitely be sticking with this shop for future maintenance, they really knew their stuff and didn't try to upsell me on unnecessary repairs like my last mechanic did. Thanks again for helping me sort this out. Time to enjoy my Porsche the way it's meant to be driven!
Hey there, had the exact same issues with my 2011 Porsche Cayman S last summer. Those symptoms scream defective fuel injectors, I experienced all of that: rough idle, poor fuel economy, drop in power, and that nasty exhaust smell. Took it to a Porsche specialist after my regular mechanic couldn't figure it out. They ran diagnostics and confirmed two injectors were failing. Had to replace all six injectors since they recommended doing them as a set. It's definitely a serious job, they had to remove a bunch of stuff to access the injectors properly. Been running smooth as silk since then, fuel economy is back to normal, and no more check engine light. My advice: find a reputable Porsche specialist who knows these engines inside out. The dealership can do it, but I prefer independent specialists who focus on Porsche. Good luck with yours!
