Thanks for sharing that experience! Mine's also showing similar symptoms, especially on the right front. The bouncing is most noticeable on highway speeds. Just had my service at 19515 KM and they didn't mention any suspension issues then. Pretty worried it might be something serious since it's gotten worse over the past week. Thinking of checking with my local Porsche dealer, but wanted to get some community insights first. And yeah, it's actually sitting noticeably lower on the right side, exactly like what you described with your 997. Starting to think it might be the same sensor issue. Did your car also make any weird noises when going over bumps?
Hey again! Looking at your latest response about the right front being affected, that's exactly how mine started too! And yeah, my 997 did make some unusual noises over bumps, kind of like a clunking sound. It's pretty interesting that your symptoms match what I experienced almost exactly. Since you mentioned it's gotten worse over the past week, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked soon. You don't want to risk any further damage to the suspension components. When mine started acting up, I initially tried to "wait it out" but that just made me more anxious about driving it. One thing I didn't mention in my first response, before I got it fixed, I noticed the bouncing was especially bad after the car had been sitting overnight. Did you notice anything similar? The sensor issue on mine would sometimes cause the system to "forget" the correct height settings after being parked for a while. Also, even though the sensor cable was the culprit in my case, it's worth having them do a full suspension diagnostic. Better safe than sorry with these cars, right? The fact that it wasn't caught during your recent service at 19515 KM suggests it might be a recent development, which actually makes sense with these types of sensor issues. Let me know what the dealer says when you get it checked out. I'm really curious if it turns out to be the same problem!
Thanks so much for all the detailed info! Yes, actually, now that you mention it, the bouncing is definitely worse in the mornings after the car's been sitting overnight. Didn't make that connection before. And you're absolutely right about not waiting too long, I just called my Porsche dealer and got an appointment for next Tuesday morning. Really appreciate you sharing your experience with the sensor cable issue. It's given me a good starting point to discuss with the technicians, and honestly, I'm feeling a bit more relieved knowing it might not be something super major. I'll definitely update you once I get the diagnosis. Thanks again for taking the time to help out a fellow Porsche owner!
I have some experience working on Porsches. Had a similar issue with my 2012 911 Carrera (997) last year. Initially thought it was the shocks, but turned out to be a faulty sensor cable connection in the height control system. The car was sitting lower on one side and the ride was really unstable. Took it to my trusted Porsche workshop, and they diagnosed the problem pretty quickly. They found a damaged cable connection to one of the ride height sensors. Total repair came to about 155€, mainly for diagnostics and fixing the connection. What's the exact spec of your 991? Have you noticed if it's lower on a particular side? This info would help determine if you're dealing with the same problem I had.
