380 Power Seat Problem: Common Fix for Error Code Issue

Electric seats malfunction

Hi everyone, I have a 2008 Mitsubishi 380 with a problem in the passenger's electric seat. The system shows an error code and the seat controls aren't working properly. Has anyone dealt with this issue before? Would like to know what the repair process was like and what parts needed replacing. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey there! I have some experience with car electronics and had a similar issue with my 2006 Mitsubishi Galant (pretty close to your 380). The electric seat system in these Mitsubishis can act up due to a faulty battery. When mine started showing error codes and the seat controls went crazy, I took it to my regular workshop. Turned out the old battery wasn't providing consistent power to the seat's electrical system. Total repair cost me 290 Euro, they replaced the battery and reset the seat control module. Everything's been working fine since then. What's your current battery age and have you noticed any other electrical issues? This info would help figure out if you're dealing with the same problem.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My battery is actually fairly new (changed it 8 months ago) and I haven't noticed any other electrical issues in the car. Last service was done in February, and I'm at 120440 KM. My mechanic did mention something about a possible wiring harness issue, but I wanted to check with the community first before spending money on a full diagnosis. Did your workshop mention anything about checking the wiring when they fixed yours?

Hey again! Thanks for the additional info about your car. Since your battery is new, then yeah, we're probably looking at something different than what I faced with my Galant. Actually, now that you mention the wiring harness, that rings a bell. After they fixed my initial battery issue, I had a similar problem pop up again about 6 months later. Turned out there was some damaged wiring in the seat harness, apparently pretty common in these models as they age. The constant seat movement over the years can wear down the wiring insulation. In my case, they had to partially remove the seat to access the wiring harness. Found a couple of worn spots where the wires were almost bare. Cost me around 400 Euro to fix, but it's been working perfectly for the past two years. I'd say getting your mechanic to check the wiring is definitely worth it, cheaper than replacing the entire seat module if that's not the actual problem. One quick thing you could check yourself, try moving the seat all the way forward and back, and look underneath for any obvious signs of wire damage. That's what my mechanic showed me when he found the issue on mine.

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! I actually just went out to check the wiring like you suggested, and I can see some worn spots under the seat, especially near where it connects to the floor. That's probably what my mechanic was talking about. I feel much better now knowing what I'm dealing with, definitely going to get those wires checked out properly. Think I'll book it in next week and specifically ask them to look at the wiring harness. At least now I know roughly what to expect cost-wise too. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and that tip about checking under the seat. You've saved me a lot of worry and potentially some money too! I'll update the thread once it's fixed in case anyone else runs into the same problem.

Let our mechanics help you!
