2023 Renault Arkana Hybrid: Solutions for Persistent Check Engine Light, Strange Shutdowns, and Starting Difficulties

Fault stored

Engine shuts off by itself

Car won't start

Check engine light on

Hey everyone, I'm having a bit of a head-scratcher with my 2023 Renault Arkana Hybrid. The check engine light is constantly on, it randomly shuts off on its own and I've found it difficult at times to get it to start. I've noticed there's a fault stored in there as well. My gut tells me there might be an issue with some incorrect coding, but I'm trying to get clearer suggestions and other folks' experiences to make sure. Has anyone else faced something similar? What did your workshop do to resolve this? Appreciate any insights you can share.

Hey, sounds like you're dealing with a bit of a headache there. I had a similar issue with my 2021 Renault Kadjar. I'm not a mechanic but I have some experience messing around with cars. Turns out that it was because of a faulty third-party chip tuning in my car. It seems these can cause a lot of unpredictable issues. I took it to my local mechanic shop and they had to reprogramme the ECU, which set me back by about 180 euro. Quite a bummer, but the car's been running smoothly ever since. By the way, can you provide a bit more details about your car? Things like the exact year, model, engine type, mileage and if you have done any mods. It'll help in giving you more specific advice. Cheers!

Appreciate the advice. It's interesting you mentioned that, I indeed had a chip tuning installed a few months back, but took it off later. Maybe that's the root of the problem. To answer your question, my Arkana's got a hybrid engine and has run about 70231 km so far, last service was a month ago. No other mods, everything else is in its factory condition. I'm praying this issue isn't gonna cost me an arm and a leg! Thanks again for your input.

Hey there, no problem at all. It's always good to exchange thoughts on such hassles. Based on what you've shared, it definitely sounds as though the chip tuning could be the cause, especially since you started having issues after it was installed. The core problem likely lies with the ECU not being properly reset after the removal of the chip, hence the incorrect coding issue you suspected. Getting this fixed shouldn't cost you an arm and leg, based on my own experience. I'd suggest taking your Arkana to a mechanic you trust and have them reset and reprogramme the ECU, and while you're at it, get them to clear the stored fault too. Stay strong. These car troubles are always a pain, but they're fixable with the right help. Let me know how it goes, alright? Hoping your ride gets back to its usual self soon. Cheers!

Hey, that’s a relief to hear it probably wouldn't cost a fortune. I'm planning to get it checked with my trusted mechanic this weekend. They're quite thorough, so hopefully, they can help reset the ECU and clear out the fault. Your comments have been really helpful in narrowing down the possible problem. I'll let you know how it goes. And yeah, gotta stay positive about these car troubles or they'll drive you round the bend! Cheers for the insightful advice!
