2022 Volvo S90 Engine Issues: Low Power, Starting Issues and Suspected Cylinder Pressure Fluctuation

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

|

Car won't start

Hey fellow car enthusiasts, recently my 2022 Volvo S90 (diesel engine, with 88813 KM on the clock) has been acting up. Checked engine light is on, power's on the low side and to top it off, it won't even start. I've had a suspicion that there might be some pressure fluctuation in one of the cylinders. I'm a bit of a shadow from my last mechanic visit, so I'm curious if any of you have gone through anything similar? Any advice or personal experiences with your own mechanics would be really appreciated. Cheers!

Hey, I've got a 2019 Volvo V90 with a good chunk of mileage on it, and I experienced quite a similar issue not too long ago. I too had the dreaded check engine light and my car was as unresponsive as a brick when it came to power. One moment it was purring like a kitten, next it wouldn't even fire up. Similar to what you suspected, it turned out that the cylinder was not providing the right pressure, combined with a few error memory entries that manifested as a result. Nasty bit of stuff they were. Threw the entire system out of whack and my car was throwing fits left and right. We ended up having to do a fuel system clean, among other things. Cylinder, spark plugs, and fuel injectors with all that jazz. Seemed like a lot of work but apparently, it was the route to go. Apparently, this is quite a common issue that's not only specific to our Volvos but to other diesel engine vehicles in general. So although it was a serious issue, it wasn't anything that the folks at the garage haven't dealt with before. Best of luck on your end!

Wow, cheers for that detailed response! Really appreciate you sharing your experiences with your V90. It's uncanny how similar your issue was to mine, down to the symptoms and suspicion about the cylinder pressure. So, fuel system clean, spark plugs, fuel injectors - sounds like you had quite the tumult in your ride! Now I'm sort of bracing myself for quite a trip to the mechanic. Do you happen to remember what kind of pocket damage I might be looking at? And hey, since you've had that issue sorted, has anything else popped up? Hoping your Volvo is purring unhindered these days. Thanks again!

Hello again! Yep, my V90 did throw a big one at me, that's for sure! But guess what? After seeing the mechanic, the pressure fluctuation on the cylinder was handled, no sweat. Your suspicion seems spot on! As for any hitches after this whole palaver, it's all rainbows and butterflies! Right after the ordeal, got the Consequential errors from the earlier error memory entries sorted out too. Now, the best part? Can you believe that the mechanic didn't charge me anything extra for those corrections? Yes, you've read that right. Zilch, nada, zero. It all came to 0€, a proper steal! With that off my chest, I can assure you my V90 has been as smooth as cream. Fingers crossed it continues like this! So, brace yourself, get under the hood, and you'll be back to burning rubber in no time! Trust.

Love to hear that your V90 is running smoothly! Your experience is giving me some major relief and turns out, a chunk of hope too. I reckon I'll take a deep breath and head over to the mechanic soon. Who knows, might just get lucky like you and score some '0€' extras, eh? Can't thank you enough for your input and assurance. You've been a real sport, helping a fellow Volvo driver out. Now off to fix my beast, fingers crossed! Cheers!
