2022 Kia Rio Experiencing Parking Aid Issues and Electronic Malfunctions

General electric malfunction

Hi! I have a 2022 Kia Rio with a gasoline engine and about 190k KM on the meter. Lately, she's showing some weird symptoms like the park distance control isn't working, and there's a mysterious warning light on the speedometer. There are also some faults being stored and a general electric malfunction popping up. This feels like an error in the parking aid to me, but I'm a bit hesitant to take her back to the mechanic because of a terrible experience last time. Has anyone else faced these issues and how did your mechanic handle them? Thanks!

Hey there, I totally get your hesitation about going again to a mechanic shop. I've got a 2019 Kia Optima and faced a similar situation a while back. Turns out, it had everything to do with the parking aid sensor. This bugger can sometimes malfunction due to dirt accumulation, showering us with all sorts of weird signals, malfunctions, and, notably, phantom faults. By virtue of my last trip to the garage, they checked the sensor thoroughly which involved examining the wiring to ensure there weren't any damages or breaks. After a good cleaning and rewiring, things were sorted. Yes, this was a bit of a significant issue as parking sensors are pretty crucial nowadays especially in busy urban parking situations. But on the flip side, it wasn't a headache to fix. You’ll definitely want to get your car looked at - and sooner rather than later to avoid any unwelcome surprises. Best of luck with your Kia Rio!

Hey! Thanks a bunch for sharing your experience with your Kia Optima. It feels comforting knowing I'm not alone in this boat. I can totally relate to the part about the parking sensor causing such a ruckus! While it's a bit irritating, I do understand the necessity of it especially in the areas with tight parking spots. Looks like my Rio will need to make a trip to the garage after all, huh? Just out of curiosity, I was wondering how much did it cost to get the sensor and wiring fixed? I'd like to be prepared for the bill. Also, has there been any more trouble with it or any other electric issue since your last repair? Cheers!

Hey there! No problem at all. I reckon it's always good to have a ballpark figure in mind before you start any car work. About the cost, it did hit my wallet a bit - the whole repair set me back around 265€. But hey, at least my Kia behaves like it should now, right? As for your second question, so far it's all smooth sailing since seeing the mechanic. The parking aid error was sorted out, and she hasn't thrown any more tantrums (fingers crossed)! Hope your trip to the garage goes well. Take care!

Cheers for the steady reply and for sharing the costs of your repair. That certainly does throw a well-needed ballpark for me. I'm somewhat happy to hear that the cost isn't astronomically high, even though I'd prefer not having to spend extra at all. Still, it's worth it to get my dear Rio back on track. Your experience gives me hope that once the parking aid sensor is fixed, it'll be smooth rides ahead. Time to schedule that garage visit then. Thanks once again for your help. Ride safe!
