Fault stored

Hey fellow car enthusiasts! I'm having a bit of a stress-out moment with my 2021 Volvo XC60, Gasoline engine, with 136,788 KM clocked so far. I've noticed the ABS warning light coming on, the ABS/DSC system not functioning, a winking warning light on my speedometer, and it seems like there's a fault stored. I got a hunch it might be related to a Wheel speed sensor (ABS sensor) failure, given all the symptoms. But here's the thing, my last visit to the mechanic was pretty grim, so I'm a bit wary about going again. Has anyone else had similar issues? If so, how did your mechanic deal with it? I'd appreciate any insight!

Hey there! I can totally relate. A couple of years back, I was driving a 2018 Volvo XC90 and ran into somewhat the same issue. It started small with the ABS warning light flashing intermittently. I ignored it for a while (I know, rookie mistake), but then the ABS/DSC system started acting all janky. It was undriveable and pretty nerve-wracking. The problem was indeed with the ABS Control Unit, just as you suspect. It needed professional attention at the garage. During the repair, the mechanic explained that over time, the wheel speed sensor can fail due to debris or just wear and tear, which causes erratic ABS function. No need to panic, though. It was a serious issue, but once they had replaced the faulty ABS Control Unit and a damaged wheel speed sensor, everything went back to normal. The old girl drove smooth as ever. Just be sure to get it looked over sooner rather than later if you suspect there's a problem. It'll save you a lot of headache down the road!

Yo! Your tale feels like déjà vu for me! Had the mishap with my own Volvo a few years back. Glad to hear you sorted it out with a new ABS Control Unit and a wheel speed sensor. If you don't mind me asking, do you still remember how much they charged you for the repairs? And any more problems with the ABS system or it's been smooth sailing since then? Cheers dude!

Hey! Yeah, absolutely, happy to share the details. The whole ABS Control Unit replacement set me back around a grand - 1000€ to be exact. Not the most fun way to spend money, but hey, it absolutely sorted the issue. Now for your second question, after seeing the mechanic and getting that pesky Wheel speed sensor sorted, all the warning lights disappeared. No more unwanted blinking on the dashboard to make your heart skip a beat, you feel me? ABS has been doing its job perfectly, no problems at all. So, all in all, despite the initial cost, it was totally worth it for the peace of mind. The advice I would give is don't hesitate - if the symptoms start showing, nip it in the bud. The road has been silky smooth for me since then! Cheers!

Sweet! A grand seems steep but if it sorts everything out, it's money well-spent in my books. No need for fairy lights on my dashboard, thanks! Cheers for your advice, I reckon I'll head to the mechanic quick smart and nip this bugger in the bud. Here's hoping it's smooth sailing for me too after this. Thanks a bunch for your help! Stay safe on the roads!
