2021 Renault Arkana Hybrid Experiencing Multiple Issues: Potential Camshaft Sensor Trouble?

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Car won't start

Unsteady engine

Stalling while idling

Hey fellow motorheads, my 2021 Renault Arkana hybrid with about 92k on the clock is acting up real bad. Got every trouble in the book: engine light, power loss, wonky idle, won't start, jerks on acceleration, stalls when idling - you name it. My hunch is it's a Camshaft sensor issue, but wanted some second opinions. Have any of you had similar problems? And if so, how'd your mechanic deal with it? Last mechanic visit was a nightmare, so trying to not go down that road again if I can. Cheers!

Hey, Your hunch might just be spot on. I faced identical trouble with my 2016 Renault Koleos. Thought I was having issues with the engine initially, considering the unpredictable power loss and it also stalled a lot when idling. Hell, the thing would randomly jerk on acceleration. Turned out, it was a case of a defective sensor wheel on the camshafts. Given the fact your car's showing power loss, messed up idle cycles and lighting up the dreaded engine light, it's likely to be the same thing. I insisted on a thorough diagnostic run when I took mine into the shop. They found the problem and we ended up replacing the defective camshaft sensor wheel. Overall, I'd say it's a fairly serious issue, but once the sensor wheel was replaced, everything was back to normal. So you might want to have your Arkana checked out sooner rather than later. Good luck!

Hey there! Wow, it does sound like our cars are having the same temper tantrum. Good to know yours sorted out after replacing the sensor wheel. If you don't mind me asking, do you recall roughly how much they charged you to fix your Koleos? I'm just trying to prepare for the worst, you know. Also, since the replacement, have you noticed any new issues cropping up, or has it been smooth sailing? Trying to gauge if I should be bracing for more car trouble down the line or not. Thanks a ton for your help!

Hey! You're right, there's no harm in being prepared. For me, the total damage ran up to about 695€ - that was for fixing the darn sensor wheel on the camshafts. Might seem a bit steep, but trust me, it was worth every penny considering the massive difference in performance afterward. As for your second question, it's been a smooth ride! Ever since gettin' that Camshaft sensor malfunction fixed up, I can honestly say no other trouble has popped up, touch wood. So my advice, don't sweat about other problems lurking around the corner. Just deal with what you know, and right now, that's getting your Arkana on the mend. Best of luck and let us know how it goes!

Hey, Thanks for the useful info. A bit pricey indeed but if it means I get my Arkana running smoothly again, it's a bullet I'm willing to bite. Music to my ears knowing your ride's been running fine since the fix. I guess I've been overthinking things a bit. Will get my car booked into a reliable garage to sort that sensor problem out. Can't wait to get back to smooth motoring, fingers crossed! Appreciate your help and will definitely keep you updated. Cheers!
