2021 Renault Arkana Hybrid Experiences Engine Issues and Increased Fuel Consumption

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Shaking while idling

Stalling while idling

Car won't start

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

Poor fuel economy

Jerking on acceleration

Hey folks, need some insights here. My 2021 Renault Arkana Hybrid with just over 39k km on the clock has started acting up lately. It's doing a whole bunch of annoying and troubling things, like belching out black smoke when I gun it, flashing the check engine light constantly, and even having momentary power loss. Also, the idling is wobbish and sometimes the car just stalls, even at idle. Man, the engine shakes like a belly dancer too, and it's a complete pain to start it up. Recently, I've noticed that it's gulping down fuel like crazy and gives a hard jerk when I try to accelerate. So, I'm guessing it could be something with the ignition coil misfiring or being faulty - at least my gut tells me so. Last time I went to the mechanic, it wasn't a good time and don't wanna repeat that again! So, has anybody else had similar issues with their car? I'm keen on hearing how you guys sorted it out and how your experience was dealing with your mechanic. Hoping for some help here, friends.

Hey, sorry to hear about your issue with the Arkana. I had something similar with my 2018 Renault Koleos. It too started belching smoke, flashing the check engine light, and started consuming more fuel. I mean, the beast was lunging forward every time I stepped on the accelerator, nearly rattling my teeth out, you get my drift? Turns out, it was a defective cable connection to my ignition coil. Mechanic diagnosed it, took him some time though. Apparently, the cable connection was causing the coil to misfire leading to all that chaos. It's definitely not a trivial issue, because it could lead to more serious problems with the engine if left untreated. Good luck with this, hope it turns out to be a straightforward fix for you like it was for me. Cheers.

Hey, your experience sounds a bit relieving. Sorry to barge in, but my Arkana Hybrid here got me tearing my hair out for the same issues. Do you remember by any chance what kind of money you shelled out for getting that cable connection fixed? And just out of curiosity, has anything else popped up since you got it done? I'm halfway expecting an avalanche of issues after sorting out this ignition coil stuff. Cheers, and thanks for your time!

Hey, Totally hear you on the hair-tearing-out part! Been through that and I can tell you, it ain't fun. Onto your question about the cost, getting the cable connection to the ignition coil fixed set me back around 365 euro. I know it's not exactly pocket change, but honestly, it's worth getting it sorted out. I mean, it put an end to all those misfires and the car's been running smoother ever since. And to feed your curiosity, since visiting the mechanic, I haven't experienced any other issues related to the ignition coil. It's like they've disappeared into thin air. So, fingers crossed, your Arkana won't turn into an avalanche of problems after this fix. All the best with sorting it out! Let's hope your experience is as smooth as mine was. Cheers!

Thanks a lot! Your response does throw some light onto the bizarre stuff happening with my Arkana. I guess a trip to the mechanic is unavoidable now. Though 365 euro will pinch, if it helps get the beast functioning like it used to, I guess I'll take a leap of faith. Your issue-free snap after dealing with the ignition coil sure gives some relief. Maybe my gut wasn't wrong after all about this. Apologies if I came across sounding too desperate, but these car issues have given me some worrisome sleepless nights! Here's hoping for a smooth ride post this fix, fingers crossed. Thanks again for your insights. Much appreciated! Cheers!
