Hey! Strange scenes pretty similar happened with my Arkana too, about the same mileage. My red flags were the wild engine sounds and the metal bits in the oil. But my problem wasn't with the Engine oil temp sensor, it turned out to be the oil pump instead. I had it replaced and whisked away the problems for the most part (touch wood!), but I'd recommend getting a full engine check to stay on the safe side, especially with the overheating and all. Just giving you a ballpark figure here, cause I don't recall the exact amount, do you happen to remember how much you had to fork out for the repairs? Also, has anything else cropped up after that? Would be really good to compare notes. Cheers!
Hey! Well, you’re right on point there. After seeing the mechanic again, the mystery was sorted out. Apparently, it was the Engine oil temperature sensor causing all the ruckus. The good news is, it's now fixed, and harmony has been restored under the hood - no more odd sounds and the overheating seems to be a thing of the past. I've also found an issue with the coolant level that was curiously too low. It's a bit of pricy problem, set me back a solid 52.50 € to set that right, but hopefully that's the last of it. So yeah, in terms of costs, that's where I stand. And since pulling out of the mechanic's yard, all's been well and smooth sailing. I'd definitely advise getting that full engine check though. The peace of mind post-inspection is worth its weight in gold. Good luck with your Arkana!
Thanks a ton for your suggestions. Good to know I'm not the only one with these problems and that it's something fixable, not good for the pocket though! Looking back on my visit to the mechanic, he did mention some stuff about an engine oil temp sensor too. So, I guess that hints at how this story's gonna end, huh? And boy, the price tags you guys mentioned have given me quite the start. But hey, I guess it's better than having a dead car in the parking lot. I'll definitely pull up at a mechanic with your advice in hand, and book a complete engine check-up soon, fingers crossed all goes well! Thanks again, your experiences have given me a bit of a head-start. Cheers!
Hey! I've got a 2018 Renault Captur and ran into a similar issue around the 80k km mark. I initially thought my issue was the Coolant temperature sensor too, but turns out it was my coolant level that was too low. My mechanic spotted it after a thorough inspection. I did hear some weird noises from the engine and the temperatures were definitely running higher than usual, quite close to what you've described. The metal shavings in the oil though, that's disconcerting. For me, the mechanic had to do a complete coolant flush and replace it. He also checked the remainder of the cooling system to ensure there wasn't any more trouble. It wasn't a happy day as it pointed to a more serious issue, probably with the coolant system. Might be a good idea to have your car's engine block, water pump, and thermostat checked as a routine, just to rule out any beginning of a bigger problem. Hope this helps you in some way. Good luck sorting it out.
