2021 Dacia Logan Exhibits Power Loss and Engine Noise; Possible Cylinder Knock suspected

Loss of engine power

Poor fuel economy

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Weird engine noise

Hey guys, having a bit of a headache here with my 2021 Dacia Logan, petrol version. It’s done 61579 km so far and recently the check engine light flipped on. The power seems a bit off, kind of dragging its heels, you know? Been noticing some jerks when accelerating, as if the car's got a mind of its own. Fuel economy ain't what it used to be and also, there's this weird noise coming from the engine, creeps me out to be honest. Given the symptoms, I've been thinking about the issue potentially being cylinder knock. Has anyone had a similar experience or reckon that's what it could be? Could definitely use advice on a trustworthy mechanic too, not really keen on another bad experience. Cheers!

Hey, sounds like a bummer. I had a similar experience with my 2018 Dacia Duster. It was acting just the same, that weird noise and all. After the diagnostics, turned out it was deposits in the combustion chamber that were causing the problem. A proper engine cleaning was the key to fix it. Mechanics had to remove the cylinder head, clean the deposits and then they checked the injectors as well if I recall correctly. Overall, it wasn't a minor issue, but not a terminal one either. Just one of those things that happen, I reckon. Sounds like your Logan might be suffering from the same. Definitely get it checked out by a trusted garage. If you're around Leeds, PM me, I can recommend a good place. Remember better pay for a fix now than be hit with a bigger fault down the line. Cheers!

Hey there, I appreciate the input. Sounds like what you went through with your Duster is pretty spot on with my Logan's symptoms. A bit relieved it's not terminal and thanks for the heads-up about catching it before it spirals into a bigger issue. I’m curious - do you remember roughly how much you had to fork over for the engine cleaning and checks? Has anything else cropped up since the fix or has your Duster been behaving itself? Haha. Oh, and I'm not in Leeds but always pass by when I'm on the road, would be helpful to know a reliable garage for the future. Cheers!

Hey again, glad I could help ease your mind a bit. Look, when it comes to the costs, if memory serves, I was set back about 425€ for the whole engine cleaning job. They had to deal with all those pesky deposits in the combustion chamber and all that jazz. About enough money to feel it, but definitely a cost I was willing to bear to get my ride back on track. And tell you what, ever since that fix, my Duster has been as quiet as a mouse. That knocking combustion in at least one of the cylinders that was giving me grief? Sorted completely. Seems like it was just a one-off thing, luckily. Now the old girl purrs just like she's supposed to. So, all's well that ends well, right? Oh, and regarding that garage in Leeds, just hit me up whenever you're passing through. Always good to know a reliable place, especially when you're on the road a lot. Stay safe and take care of that Logan!

Thanks for the response! It's reassuring to hear your Duster's been smooth sailing since the fix and I hope that'll be the case with my Logan too. 425€ sounds like a fair price to pay for peace of mind and a car in top shape. This entire situation has kind of pushed me to take better care of my Logan now, haha. Definitely sounds as though your mechanic did a thorough job, so I'll make sure to hit you up when I'm next in Leeds. Cheers for all the help, it's greatly appreciated!
