2020 Volvo XC40 Electric Steering Column Adjustment Issue and Possible Fixes

Electric steering column adjustment without function

Hey folks! I'm having a bit of trouble with my 2020 Volvo XC40. Suddenly, the electric steering column adjustment has gone kaput, and I'm thinking the motor might be the culprit. Has anyone else faced this issue in their XC40 and if so, how did you go about fixing it? Any help or shared experiences would be much appreciated!

Hey there! Did have a similar drama with my 2018 Volvo XC60. I ain't no car guru, but I've got some hands-on experience. Seems like our trouble twins, right? In my case, the culprit was the steering column motor cable connection. Ended up taking it to my local workshop and they managed to fix it for 155 Euro. Wasn't too thrilled about the expense but at least I got my ride back to normal. Mind sharing more details about your XC40 - mileage, service history, etc.? Could help zero in on the issue a bit better. Cheers!

Hello! Appreciate the suggestion, the cable connection could be it. I've clocked around 161,880 KM on my XC40. And just for good measure, had it serviced about a month back, everything was in tip-top shape then. Looks like I might be heading to my mechanic soon, thanks for the help, really! Cheers!

Hey! No worries, happy to help! Looks like your Volvo XC40 has been doing the long haul. It's a tad surprising though, given it was all fine just a month back. In my experience, something like this usually starts showing symptoms - maybe we missed them? Anyway, considering your mileage, a motor fault could be a possibility too. Though checking the cable connection first wouldn't do any harm, it's a simpler and cheaper fix. Remember to share what your mechanic says, it helps us all learn and who knows, we might end up troubleshooting our steering column adjustment problems together. Good luck!

You're right there, might have missed some early warning signs. I'll definitely start with the cable connection check before jumping to conclusions about the motor fault. Thank you again for your valuable input! Once I get a word from the mechanic, I'll make sure to update here. Fingers crossed it's not a heavy hit on the wallet. Take care! Cheers!
