2020 Seat Tarraco Engine and Electrical Issues: Increased Fuel Consumption, Flickering Lights, and Starting Difficulties

Car won't start

Poor fuel economy

Dim or flickering lights

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey guys, I've been dealing with a real pickle with my 2020 Seat Tarraco (gasoline engine) with 83216 km on the counter. Last time at the garage was a disaster, so I could use some of your wisdom. Here's the deal: the car won't fire up, guzzling more fuel than usual, there's this mysterious warning light on the speedometer, and the lights are acting up - dimming or flickering. I suspect it might be something tied to the engine start-stop system. Anyone out there with similar headaches? What was your mechanic's take on this? Would appreciate your insights!

Hey there! Just from your description, it sounds like it could well be a battery problem. I had a similar issue with my 2017 Seat Ateca. Lights were flickering, engine wouldn't turn over, and a strange warning light popped up on my dashboard. Took it to my local garage, and yup, it was a weak battery causing all that mess. Batteries can affect numerous features in our cars, including the fuel economy, lights, electrical system, and even the start-stop system in our vehicles. It wasn't a minor issue, but thankfully, it wasn't a severe one either. The garage had a battery in stock that fit my model and was able to fix the problem without any major hassle. The car's been peachy since. Your symptoms seem very similar to mine, so it's quite possible you might be dealing with the same thing. I recommend having the battery assessed as soon as possible. Good luck!

Hey! Your problem does sound strikingly familiar to what mentioned. The good ol' battery seems to be creating more than its fair share of issues these days! I too had to deal with a similar snafu in my Tarraco, down to the same baffling warning light. The mechanic confirmed it to indeed be a weak battery. Can't deny, I'm curious though. Do you remember an estimate of how much it cost you when you fortuitously had a replacement in hand? And has your Ateca had any more hitches, or was the battery change a one-off solution? Keep in touch and let us know how it goes! Cheers!

Hey there! Yeah, the troubles we had are almost a mirror image. After I limped my Ateca to the mechanic, he confirmed my suspicion about the battery. The bugger was indeed weak and causing chaos in the car's system. But here's the good news. After the fix, and dishing out 290€ for a fresh battery, the car's been purring like a happy kitten! No problems whatsoever. That haunting warning light vanished, the engine fires up without a problem, fuel consumption is back to normal and the lights are as bright as new. Even the engine start-stop feature is back on track. So, in my experience, once this battery issue was rectified the car ran like a dream. So far so good. Keep us updated on your Tarraco! Cheers!

Hi there! First off, appreciate your quick responses! Nothing’s worse than feeling alone with a car problem. Battery, huh? I hadn't even considered that! It does make sense though. Lighting issues, the start-stop system not working - all features tied to the electrical system. Thankfully, your stories are giving me some comfort, although that 290€ is a bit of a blow to the wallet for sure. I’ll call up my local garage tomorrow and see what they say. Hopefully, it's the same deal - swap out the battery and get back on the road. I’ll keep you updated on what happens. Thanks again guys, your advice has been invaluable! Fingers crossed!
