Loss of engine power

Hey! I got a 2020 Kia Pro Ceed, gas engine, just crossed 6,375 km. Lately, the beast's been giving me some grief - engine light's on, losing power, shaky and jerky acceleration, stalls and rattles at idle. I reckon it's got something to do with a buggered-up tank ventilation system. Had a shoddy mechanic experience in the past, so want to avoid the run-around this time. Anyone come across similar issues? How'd your garage handle it? Any words of advice are much appreciated. Thanks a ton!

Hey, totally get what you're dealing with. I've got a 2017 Kia Rio and had similar symptoms last year. So, turns out, the cause was damaged hoses in my case. You're right on the money suspecting the ventilation system – that can cause a lot of this judder and stalling. When I brought mine into the garage, they diagnosed and found out that some hoses were compromised, part of the evaporative emission system (EVAP). Without going too deep into jargon, the EVAP controls the fuel vapors from the gas tank and when it's dysfunctional, can trigger the 'check engine' light and cause less smooth performance. It was a pretty serious issue because ignoring it could have led to substantial engine damage. They basically had to replace a few worn-out hoses. When they showed me the old ones, they were quite brittle and had some pretty serious cracks - a clear sign they were due for a change. It was an intensive job requiring quite a bit of disassembling and reassembling, but once done, it provided an immediate improvement. So, my I'd say get your Pro Ceed checked out ASAP. Ask them specifically to check out vent hoses and the EVAP system. Better safe than sorry, as they say. Hope this helps!

Hey there, your situation sounds all too familiar! It's good to know those symptoms led to a damaged hose in your Kia Rio - similar signs are popping up with my Pro Ceed. I'm definitely taking it in sooner rather than later, wouldn't want any potential engine damage. Just out of interest, do you remember around how much the garage charged for that hose replacement job? Also, since they fixed that up, have you run into any related issues in the Rio, or has she been running smoothly ever since? Thanks again for the advice!

Hey, glad to hear my experience could give you some hints! Absolutely, the quicker you can get it sorted, the better it’ll be for your Pro Ceed. As for the cost, the hose replacement set me back around 175.00 €. It might seem a tad steep, but considering the potential damage a faulty evaporation system can do, I'd say it was worth every penny. About the post-repair performance, she's been humming like the first day off the lot since they patched up the tank ventilation system. No more judders, stalls, or any of those hairy moments you were talking about. In fact, it's been smooth sailing (or should I say, driving!) ever since. Hope this puts you at ease a bit! Best of luck with your Pro Ceed!

Hey, thanks for coming back to me! That price isn't as bad as I was expecting, especially if it's gonna get my Pro Ceed back in peak condition. Relieved to hear it sorted all your Rio's issues. I'm hoping for the same. I'll take it into the garage first thing tomorrow and ask them to have a close look at the EVAP system and the vent hoses, as you suggested. Guess it's just one of the joys of car ownership, right? Anyway, cheers for all your advice – it's been a big help. Fingers crossed it'll be smooth driving for me soon too!
