2019 Hyundai i40 ABS/DSC System Malfunction Possibly Linked to Transmission Fluid Issue

ABS/DSC system is not working

Hey car gurus! I'm hoping for some guidance with my 2019 Hyundai i40, gasoline engine, that's clocked about 35,798km. Just recently, the ABS/DSC system stopped functioning, and I'm suspecting it might be due to my transmission fluid being worn out. The last time I went to a mechanic, it was a nightmare, so I'd really hope to avoid any unnecessary visits. Has anyone else encountered something similar? Looking for advice and experiences you've had with your own mechanic. All experiences with related issues are more than welcome. Thanks a bunch, guys!

Hey there! I feel you on the whole mechanic ordeal - car troubles can be quite a hassle, can't they? Your issue sounds a bit familiar to one I had with my 2016 Hyundai Sonata. While it's a slightly different beast, these problems can crop up in a variety of models. On mine, the ABS and DSC system went haywire around the 40,000km mark. Turns out, it wasn't the transmission fluid as I initially suspected. In my case, the gear oil was worn out. This was a bit of a nasty surprise, since gear oil usually lasts for much longer, but guess we're in the same boat, eh? I took my car to my trusted garage and they realized that the gear oil was almost toast. You could tell just by looking at it - the oil had lost its distinctive transparent red colour and was more of a dingy brown. And don't get me started on the smell. Burnt toast had nothing on this! Their solution? They drained the old, worn-out oil, cleaned the gear components thoroughly, which was absolutely needed to prevent any dirt or residue from damaging the system, and then filled it up with fresh gear oil. The fix wasn't an arduous one but needed special attention as dealing with gear components is no child's play. Once the whole thing was done and dusted, my Sonata ran like a dream once more. So, this might not bode an entirely new transmission job for you. Definitely try getting the gear oil checked out first. It might just save you a whole lot of trouble. Hope this helps! Do update us on how it turns out. Good luck out there!

Hey there! you've just described half my ordeal there! Guess misfortune loves company, huh? Appreciate the heads up about the gear oil - wasn’t on my radar at all. So it seems I’m headed to the mechanic after all, just hope it won’t be as crazy as last time. Just out of curiosity, how much damage did this do to your wallet? And from your experience, should I expect any other surprises? You know, since we're both sailing on the same boat. Cheers!

Hey again! Yeah, I'd say we have quite the companionable misfortune going on, don't we? As for the cost of my fix, it set me back about €365.00. But honestly, it was well worth it given the peace of mind it brought, knowing that it wasn't something more expensive like the transmission. Down at my garage, once they finished servicing, my mechanic gave everything a thorough look-over so there wouldn't be any more nasty surprises. Thankfully, after sorting out the transmission fluid, everything else was in ship shape. I reckon your i40 might be in for a similar treatment. So, fingers crossed there won't be any other issues lurking around. I'd totally suggest having a chat with your mechanic to ensure all other systems are in good nick while you're at it - prevention is better than cure, right? Looking forward to hearing how it goes! Best of luck with it!

Hey there, my car! I'm actually feeling a bit relieved now. €365.00 isn't that terrible considering the nightmare scenarios I had in my head. Plus, getting that peace of mind really is priceless, innit? Quality advice there - will definitely ask my mechanic for a thorough rundown. Fingers crossed for no further problems. You've been a real trooper - seriously, thanks for the guidance. Next update you'll get from me will be post-dealership. Hopefully, with some good news. Thanks again!
