Hey there, it seems my Hyundai Eon went through a similar patch at around 28k KM. That grinding sound and wacky shifting were all too familiar for me. Like the previous responder, my mechanic found my transfer case oil had gone kaput. The ABS light came on as an added unwelcome guest which turned out to be linked to the same issue. Once the transfer case was drained and refilled, along with some other minor adjustments, it was like driving a brand new machine. It was definitely worth it, though I'm not gonna lie, I was worried about the cost. If you remember, how much did you end up paying to get the issue sorted out? And another thing, have you experienced any other issues with your Tucson since you fixed the oil problem? Thanks for the help, my. Can't wait to get my Eon back on track! Safe travels to you too.
Hey there, glad to hear you're familiar with the symptoms I described. Here's the deal - fixing the worn gear in the transfer case oil set me back by about €210. I know, right? Not the cheapest fix, but then again, nothing is when it comes to maintaining a car! To answer your other query, since my trip to the mechanic, I've had no further issues. The whole operation of draining out the old worn gear oil and replacing it took care of the problem entirely. Now my Tucson is as smooth and reliable as ever, just like when I first got her. The peace of mind knowing that I won't be stranded somewhere because of a faulty transmission is priceless, so really, it was money well spent. I hope this helps you with your Eon. Get that issue sorted out sooner than later, you won't regret it! Drive safe and let us know how it goes!
Thanks for the insight, guys! Really appreciate your inputs. It does seem like worn gear in the oil transfer case is the culprit. And thanks for throwing in the cost too; it stings the pocket for sure, but I presume it's one of those expenses that you don't want to skimp on. Hopefully, once it's sorted, I won't have any more hitches. Who knew that these small signs could point to such a significant issue! I'll take this as a learning experience and remember to not ignore any jarring noises or lights in the future. I'll be heading over to another mechanic soon and let them know about our diagnosis. Fingers crossed, my ol' Hyundai will soon be purring like a kitten, and not a moment too soon! I'll keep you all posted on how it goes. Until then, stay safe on the roads, friends!
Hey! I can totally relate to your woes. I drive a 2016 Hyundai Tucson and experienced something similar. Mine had racked up about 30k KM, then things started going wonky with the transmission shifting all over the place and a grinding noise haunting my drives. Once I rolled up my sleeves and did some poking around, it turned out I had the same issue as you're suspecting - worn gear in the oil in my transfer case. I initially thought it wasn't a big deal, but boy, I was wrong. The worn gear was an indicator of some serious internal damage that, if left unattended, could potentially compromise the entire transmission system. No one wants to be left stranded with a broken-down car, right? The mechanic ended up draining and refilling the transfer case oil and ran some tests to ensure everything was back on track. Just a heads up, it’s a bit of a job, they had to remove some parts to get to the transfer case, but once that was done, my Tucson was back to purring like a kitten. I haven't had any issues since then. Hope you get your Eon sorted out soon. And remember, sometimes it’s these seemingly small issues that sneak up and turn into big bothers. Keep us posted, alright? Safe driving!
