2018 Seat Tarraco Fails to Start: Possible Engine Control Unit Main Relay Issue

Car won't start

Hey everyone, I've got a 2018 Seat Tarraco, Gasoline engine with 161,667 km on it and recently it won't start up. Wondering if the issue might be due to a malfunctioning Engine Control Unit (ECU) main relay. I had a rough last visit to the mechanic and I'm hoping to avoid any more drama. Has anyone else encountered this type of problem? Could really use your insight on this and how your garage handled it. Thanks in advance for your help guys!

Hey, had a similar snag in my 2015 Seat Leon. Over time, the main relay did pack up. Yeah, had me scratching my head why my darling wouldn't fire up. Strangely, there weren't any other symptoms like dashboard lights or alarming noises. Just one day the engine refused to start, thought the battery was toast but turned out to be the main relay. Took her to the garage where they ran a diagnostic test and boom, pinpointed it to the ECU main relay. I get it, nobody likes to hear "ECU issue", but it wasn't the end of the world. They replaced the relay and sorted some related wiring. Post fixing, she's back on road smoothly like nothing ever happened. It's important though; don't try to ignore or put this off as it is a significant issue. It's all about the fuel and ignition systems, which are lifeblood for your car. Make sure you get it checked and fixed ASAP. So, don't stress over it too much, just pop into the garage and have it looked at. Things happen, and that's just part of the car ownership experience. Good luck!

Hey there, thanks a ton for sharing your experience with the ECU issue. Gave me a bit of relief knowing it's not the end of the world per se, but yea, I get the urgency now. The whole no startup thing is just a pain in the neck. Reckon you remember roughly how much you had to part with for the relay replacement and the wiring work? And just curious, has anything similar or any other quirky stuff come up since sorting that out? Thanks again, appreciate it!

Hey there, no worries, glad my two cents could help! Now onto your questions. Repairing that main relay problem set me back around 120€ - yep, that's the cost of the defective relay fix-up. Not too bad in the big scheme of things. As for other quirks? Thankfully, no, not after that big relay drama. Ever since my mechanic sorted out that main relay issue, my Seat Leon has been purring like a kitten. Not a single problem yet (touch wood!). Cars, huh? They can give you a headache one day and then purr like perfectly well-behaved pets the next! Remember: Anytime you're feeling something's off, it's always better to have it checked sooner rather than later. The ol' penny of prevention, pound of cure, and all that jazz. It's part of the car owner's life after all. Hang in there!

Aha, you couldn't be more right! Cars, sometimes they're smooth sailing and other times, they make you want to pull your hair out. Thanks for sharing the costs and reassuring me about potential follow-ups. That's some load off my mind indeed. 120€ isn't too sharp a sting for getting my Tarraco back to her glory. I'll definitely heed your advice and get it to a mechanic ASAP. Thanks again for the help, really appreciate it! Best of luck with your Leon but by the sounds of it, she's in good hands!
