2018 Nissan Qashqai Overheating Issue: Suspected Coolant Temp Sensor Failure

Overheating

Check engine light on

Hey folks, I'm having a bit of a head-scratcher with my 2018 Nissan Qashqai that's been running for 81238 KM on petrol engine. Recently, she's been overheating BIG time with her check engine light making a stark appearance outta nowhere. I'm no mechanic, but my hunch is screaming a busted Coolant Temp Sensor. Surely, I'm not alone here with this problem? Just want to hear your experiences with similar issues. Also a side question - how did your mechanics handle it? My last visit to the garage left a sour taste in my mouth, know what I mean? All inputs appreciated, cheers!

Hey, totally get your struggle. I had something similar happening on my 2015 Nissan Juke just a few months ago. Initially, thought it could have been a bodged thermostat but turned out to be a defective cable connection on the coolant temp sensor, quite similar to your suspicion. Went ahead and got it booked into the garage. They did a great job diagnosing the problem, turns out it was giving a false overheat signal and guess it stuck in overheat mode. To fix it, they replaced the sensor and the plug. Took them the good part of a day to sort it all out but ever since then, the old Juke's been running like a dream. Can't say it was a life-threatening issue, but definitely something you want to get taken care of sooner than later to avoid any further headaches. All the best.

Hey, really appreciate the reply and good to know I'm not the only one facing such knotty issues. Glad your Juke's back to running smooth though. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much it cost you to get the sensor and plug replaced? And has anything else cropped up since the fix, or has it been all good under the bonnet? Cheers!

Hey there, good to hear back from you. Regarding the cost, it ran me close to about 95€ to repair the faulty cable connection on the sensor, including the parts and labor. To be honest, it was a bit of a stinger to my wallet but it was better than my motor overheating every five minutes! And since that fateful trip to the garage, my Qashqai's been behaving pretty nicely, not a single problem. That coolant temp sensor glitch was nipped in the bud swiftly and my girl's been running as cool as a cucumber since then! Hope this clears your doubt! Try not to dwell on it too much and have it fixed soon, wouldn't want your ride to heat up now, would we? All the best!

Hey, thanks for the swift reply and for the insight on the expenses - helps a bunch in mentally preparing myself! Good to know that your ride has been fairing well post the repair, gives me a little reassurance. Going to book my little troublesome Nissan into the garage in a jiffy, can't let her toasted internals become an annoyance every time I take her out for a ride. Once again, your experience has been a great help. Cheers for the detailed responses and wish you endless smooth rides on your Juke!

Good morning, my 2016 qashqai, has the problem that aad a certain point the temperature indicator rises to the red, at the same time the engine red comes on, but without turning off the engine after a few minutes the temperature indicator reaches the regular position and the, engine light goes out, other problem is that the hot air from the heater does not work, I don't know if the two things are related, I premise that the thermostatic valve has been changed. It sounds like you might be dealing with a couple of different issues here. The fluctuating temperature gauge and the engine light could be due to a faulty coolant temperature sensor or a problem with the cooling system, such as a clogged radiator or a failing water pump. The lack of hot air from the heater could be due to a problem with the heater core or a low coolant level. I would recommend starting with checking the coolant level and condition. If it's low or dirty, it might be worth having the system flushed and refilled. If the coolant is fine, then it might be worth having a mechanic inspect the cooling system and the heater core. Please keep us updated on your progress and let us know if you have any further questions.
